Maybe I've used the wrong term in this context (because English is not my mother tongue).  But as a franchisee and for allowing to license someones brand, you have to pay a fee/money for - as a part of the whole package you'll get.

Call it selling, call it licensing or even renting...the endresult is the same economically.  But maybe not in terms of legislation...

Since I obviously have no insight into any of the contracts between Microsoft and Asobo I can only guess, but I feel pretty confident, that Microsoft still owns the rights to the new piece of software. Microsoft might not write any line of code themselves, but that doesn't mean they have sold the rights. Contrary to their deal with LM regarding non-entertainment ESP usage, I don't think Microsoft has sold anything to Asobo. They simply pay Asobo to create them a piece of software. How they pay (with a certain percentage of the expected income or just with money) is a different question. Additionally, the "franchisee" in the media franchise is not a business, but a media, like books or movies (which each can be licensed to a licensee (business). This franchise term has nothing to do with business. The business relationship between Microsoft and Asobo is that between a producer/publisher (MS) and a developer (Asobo) - quite common in the gaming industry (yeah, I said the bad word).

Besides, does that really make any difference how the product will look like in the end?

@KBURAsobo is partnering Microsoft and Microsoft is the publisher. It's all there on the Asobo website if you cared to look.

May all your landings be safe ones!

KBUR... Do a bit of research on developers and publishers. Asobo is not paying Microsoft to develop MSFS. Microsoft is paying Asobo to develop it for them. Companies do this all the time. Microsoft is paying Asobo to develop MSFS (outsourcing), while marketing the end product as a Microsoft Xbox Game Studios title. However, I think you really do know this, you're just playing the part of word not allowed troll to get a rise out of people here.

I'm in the camp that cares about more realistic tree heights. I think in some of the areas that I sim-fly and am familiar with in the real world,  unrealistic tall trees that are double in height to their real counterparts are going to be an irritant to me when the rest of the scenery is clearly very realistic.

Yes but you can't expect all trees in the world being hand placed by Asobo/Blackshark. In the best case it's a matter of time, fine tuning and improving the algorithms of the AI. Gathering more and more data of our big earth.

Let's be realistic, this is a technology in it's infancy.  Enjoy the ride.

Maybe for now they should add an algorithm that makes trees smaller in close proximity to runways and approaches. Better to have too small trees there than too large trees.

Away from airports tree size is not so important to me.

Yes, the amount of GIS data has tremendously grown in quantity and accessibility (including cost) to reach the big data level but applying to them the deep learning/neural networks technology is still new and I suspect that MS tests it here among other places. This one of the many reasons why FS20 is such a fascinating project. The economic potential is obviously huge.

You are hijacking this thread !

Providing you with a link that you kept asking for is hijacking the thread, and spamming two pages with the same post is not. OK.
