Imagine where MSFS will be in 3 years?

Featured Replies

My enthusiasm has collapsed .

Luckily there is "Bing" and "Pretty Clouds" to keep me in the air a little longer. Apart from that and some new monuments... it's always the same laugh at takeoff and landing with their toys and I wouldn't dwell on the rest.ASOBO is a talented team for video games and interior design but not for the Sim.

For me MSFS can be great in 3 years if they finally decide to do a little 90 degree angle and with more coordination between all the different teams.

Anyway they're gonna keep doing what they decided to do.It won't change their life or mine.

For the moment everyone is well in the bubble.

My only pleasure is only with A320 FBW.

My feeling today and in3 years is 50/50

Well a couple a month after release my reply would have been very positive, but as of today I don't know.

We can see very weird and impactful bugs coming out from nowhere : vanishing logs and axes to 50% when you hit the ESC key. There is also weird decisions, showing that they are not really listening to their community, like the simple replay system we have been asking for a long time or a good hybrid unit option.

It was really weird to hear Asobo calling the CRJ an amazing addon, I am not sure we are flying the same version. Mine can CTD, even rarely, glideslope is a hit and miss, HUD is for show, hardware throttle is not working well, no integration with MSFS flight planner or nav data.

Just because you're having problems doesn't mean it's not a great addon. The bugs will get fixed. My crj flies great and it doesn't ctd. I'm sure I'm not the only one who shares these sentiments. You guys seem to just want to complain about anything. Get a decent working system and you won't have any ctb

Don't know why you're complaining so much. You should be happy about the pretty clouds since all you do is take screen shots and post over the orbx forums.

I agree. He fell suddenly like a hair in my soup. I threw it. I regret nothing.

OK, my two penn'orth.

When I saw the original announcement way back whenever it was, I was pretty much gob-smacked, as were many of us.

When it was released, it was pretty much all I expected. Mind you, between those two events I first upgraded my original sim PC with a Titan RTX, and then bit the bullet and bought a new beast (as per my sig) to put the Titan in to in anticipation of the sim. Couple more months and I'll even have finished paying off the card <grin>!

Since then, it's been a bit of a mixed bag. I've definitely found that my experience has worsened in some areas. The original reduction in the LOD capability (and I don't just mean tree LOD, but all scenery, buildings etc) hurt, until I found how to push it up over the 200 in the menus. I then ran with LOD 500 quite happily, if a little reduced in terms of smoothness. The latest LOD saga hasn't affected me too much in terms of actual LOD - if I keep my settings at 500 the actual visual display is still fine - but the effect has been to cripple my performance at that LOD. I now have to run LOD 200 if I want any chance of getting near my target 30 fps.

BUT - this is still the sim I always wanted. What I want is a world sim. Being able to fly around in it is great but I'm far more interested in what's out the window than what's in the cockpit. That's just me, and I realise there are plenty of people who are 180 degrees away from me on that.

But having the whole world available at the level of fidelity we have here is simply remarkable. For me at the moment, I'll just stay really low in the H135 or the Optica, and that way my horizon stays within the LOD distance. I will assume that the LOD issue will be resolved/re-instated/restored or whatever at some future point.

I don't have a crystal ball, or a big enough ego to assume I know what's going to happen, but I would hope that the next couple of years proceed along the lines of - XBox version comes out, probably a period of adjustment all round while that settles down, and then things stabilise and development continues. I'd like to see fewer major new problems introduced, but such is life. I assume the flight issues for the tubeliner guys will be resolved in time, and as many people have mentioned, these are early days for this sim and the other sims are well down the line of updates, improvements etc.

But without the streamed world we have in MSFS, the other sims don't have much appeal. That's not to say I've written them off. I still enjoy X-Plane but only in the Orbx True Earth regions or some of Forkboy's US. I don't use P3D any more but would love them to get a version together that works for me (v5 is still jerky and stuttery, even with DX12 and on my system) as I have a massive hangar of aircraft for that sim.

If MSFS can iron out the various little niggles (and that's mostly all they are, to me) and improve things like the photogrammetry presentation (I run with it turned off - too ugly for me) or simply guarantee the availability of the world wide scenery, (and here comes the bit I fully expect to get flamed for) I would happily pay a subscription to use this sim. I don't pay for any kind of cable TV service (nothing worth paying for AFAIC), I won't pay for a mobile phone contract, we don't eat out (we can both cook at least as well as most resaurants), so I'd be perfectly fine about paying for a world capable sim.

My only worry would be if it went down the tubes and they pulled the plug, in which case there really is nothing left without the streaming. But who knows where XP or P3D or even AFS2 might be by that time. Tomorrow is a long time. Or something.

Anything more than a year is a miracle for FS2020.

Microsoft could very well shelf this within the next 6 months and fire Asobo. Like what they did with the FSX team.

Hi Austin

I doubt there will be much difference in 3 years, some little tweaks here and there via SUs (half of which will have negative outcomes), more of the World updated and a more Local Legend/Famous Flyer offerings

It is what it is

I'm a flight simulation fan, so am not in the slightest connected to a single sim.  MSFS has plenty going for it, but if LOD out to the horizon is important to you, XP12 with SimHeaven X-World Europe/America will give it to you.  That Sim is not for everyone of course, but it certainly does very well with trees and buildings out to the horizon.

MSFS benefits from worldwide scenery of course, but for heli pilots and GA VFR, XP12 fits the bill very nicely.

I agree. I'm waiting on a new build PC and will see how that affects MSFS, but I have also got myself a copy of XP12. Not spending any time setting it up with addons yet, but have tried it with TrueEarth and it looks great. And I still use XP11 (it's better for my sort of thing around the SoCal area, for sure). And who knows, maybe even a P3D v6 will come along and surprise us. My disappointment with MSFS has grown though. When it's working its 'kin wonderfull, but boy can it get under your skin sometimes (No, I DO have sufficient bandwidth - it's your bl**dy servers that don't!)

Why don't they just be honest and replace the warning "your bandwidth is too low" with "our bandwidth is too low and we don't care"
