August 27, 20205 yr Laura was depicted in the sim. Sort of. I first did an IFR flight in the Caravan from KSHV Shreveport Rgnl to 5F4 Homer Mun. A total of 61nm passing right through the centre of the remains of Laura. Latest report from National Hurricane Center just before the flight: Tropical Storm Laura Tropical Cyclone Update NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL132020 1200 PM CDT Thu Aug 27 2020 ...DAMAGING WINDS AND FLOODING RAINFALL SPREADING INLAND OVER CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PORTIONS OF LOUISIANA... LOCATION...32.6N 92.9W ABOUT 50 MI...80 KM ESE OF SHREVEPORT LOUISIANA MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...70 MPH...115 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...N OR 010 DEGREES AT 15 MPH...24 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...985 MB...29.09 INCHES It also went on to report: "Barksdale AFB, Louisiana [just 9nm NE of Shreveport], recently reported a sustained wind of 35 kts (18 m/s) and a wind gust of 45 kts (23 m/s)". MSFS reported 043/24 at KSHV. Notice the reported winds upon loading into Shreveport However, just after departure the G1000 showed 225/4. Real KSHV METAR: 34022G43KT 3SM -RA BR BKN014 OVC021 23/21 A2947. Approaching Homer Mun was interesting. Almost zero visibility, cloud base just a few hundred feet above ground in rain. Interestingly, almost no surface wind though. I guess I should have chosen a different airport for my IFR flight, as getting into this one was almost impossible. Extremely low visibility, rain and low clouds at Homer Mun as depicted in MSFS Then I did another flight in the A320Neo from KATL Atlanta to KDFW Dallas, again passing through Laura. MSFS showed massive cloud buildup over the hurricane area (up to FL400 if I remember correctly) but almost no winds aloft (around 2-3kts) or turbulence. Weather at KDFW in the sim rougly corresponded to real METAR, both in terms of winds (light from north), altimeter 29.80 (real 29.76) and clouds. METAR from NOAA: KDFW 272053Z 36003KT 10SM SCT060TCU BKN120 BKN250 33/21 A2976 RMK AO2 SLP068 TCU ALQDS T03330206 58026 Fair weather departing from Atlanta En route westbound to Dallas a massive build up of clouds Coming out of the clouds at FL380 west of the storm centre Fair weather approaching Dallas ... TL;DR: Clearly winds aloft is non-functional at the moment. Surface winds seems random as well. Cloud and visibility may seem closer to real reports - I have to do further testing though. I tried their weather app in the Google Play store and found it consistently gave inconsistent weather. Found it to be a garbage app and uninstalled it. Don't think their North America data is very good at all. Their Europe based so go figure. One of the better WX apps out there. Used it for a couple of years with no issues. Got my $118 back (used $1 for the gamepass month). My list of 100+ completely broken things indicate this is not an overreaction.

It was worth 60 bucks to "try" It’s a good simulator for 60 bucks.. now if I had paid extra for premium aircraft that barely worked with no timeline on when they will work then I would be really upset. I don’t think this is on Asobo though, this reeks of bean counters at MS declaring it ready for release. Edited August 28, 20205 yr by Azapata87

For me wind injection at UK airports (and aloft) works consistently on every single flight I have done there. Winds never work at any US airport. The MeteoBlue wind data is present on the world map for the US (both surface and aloft), but for some reason the sim can’t/won’t inject it into the local atmosphere in the US. Oddly enough, it does seem to work in Southern Mexico, but not in the northern part of the country.
