It looks very good to me and I am grateful to Aerosoft for this free gift.

I do agree with that. At the same time there is a counter argument that companies like Aerosoft could use a first free release as an opportunity to showcase what they can really achieve, especially as a great advertisment to new users of which there are many!

AVSIM never ceases to amaze... even with free gifts, people are complaining.

I think that some people are expecting rather too much of the first generation of addon airports for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. Frankly, I do not expect to see much more than straight ports from P3D/XPlane until the SDK has been sorted out.......and I do not see a problem with that, particularly if some kind of discount for existing users is offered.

The fact that this one is FREE is even better!

Thanks for posting about this. I'm always on the lookout for good scenery addons and free is a bonus!

The story is that Aerosoft submitted their version of Paderborn/Lippstadt airport to Asobo during the alpha period, but, I think it needed a little more work so they said they would make it a free airport if the update didn't make it into the release version.  

Aerosoft's home office is on the airport grounds and the 3d building looks like their multi-story office building on a corner in the back.

I wouldn't let the quality of this free airport influence anyone as to the quality of a full blown Aerosoft airport like Brussels, for instance which is in work.

Whatever the "story" is, this version is superb and well worth adding. The default version is indeed very default.

I can see why some have issues with the airport, in particular some of the buildings seem to have fairly basic modeling, and do seem kind of low res when viewed up close, they look fine when in the cockpit or regular external cams though. One thing I love (assuming they added them, which I'm guessing they did as I doubt the AI would've been able) is that they have added lots of wind turbines in the surrounding area it seems, and I'm a bit of a sucker for animated scenery like that. Also i really like the gate area, pretty nicely modeled I'd say, can even see within the building, also has custom gates.

Can't say how it compares to say the FSX version and what they've added, if anything, but for a freebie I think it's well worth the download.

Probably talking about the London Landmarks. buildings didn't look great up close, had some terrain issues, and release the very high quality building like Big Ben & The Shard with low quality versions.

For me, the biggest problem with OrbX wasn't even their London Landmarks scenery, but missing functionality with their airport payware.

I just recently bought the KTIW (Tacoma Narrows) airport from OrbX just to fix the abomination that is the default Tacoma Narrows Bridges.  (I get it, it's autogenerated from the Satellite data, so I'm not complaining (too much), but KTIW does improve that quite a bit.

I too expect initial offerings to be ports of previous products.  Time to make a quick buck on the heels of a recent release to provide "some" upgrade to the product while they use those funds to help finance future upgrades.

The Orbx textures on tower bridge, the shard and the Houses of Parliament/Big Ben are not good, and the criticism is well deserved.  What would have been smarter, is to release the landmarks that DON'T exist in the product and leave default ones alone.  In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that is exactly what they are going to do, because they said they will issue a patch to deal with the low res textures on "some of the landmarks".  Easy fix, restore the default Parliament House, Tower Bridge and Shard and problem solved.  Yes some of the other buildings will not have high res textures, but they will be the correct shape and will be recognizable.

Already done, released 22nd August 2020, five days ago.
