Aerosofts first MSFS airport, for free

What I was thinking. Freeware nice and all, but if is going to be the typical size of a small add-on, we're going to need a bigger boat (or even hard drive).

Hey it's free , not like orbx charging you $$$ less quality than the default game or anything

ORBX has a free MSFS airport listed as well!!!

If anyone installs this, make sure to check if the airport is fully functional after installation to prevent problems like we saw from another developer. Things to check:

  • Does the airport appear with a star on its icon on the MSFS world map, indicating it's a handcrafted airport?
  • Does the airport have arrival and departure procedures as well as approaches that can be selected by the avionics of the aircraft and can be assigned by ATC?
  • Does the airport have working Tower / ATC, including all stuff that is handled by ATC inside the sim, like ground services. Do the ground services work when they are requested?
  • Does the ILS work?
  • Do the PAPI lights work?
  • Are the runways correctly numbered?

Can anyone confirm?

I think we may have to be careful when rushing to download Free DLC add-ons at this point!

I notice when taxiing that the textures not too far in front of the plane are changing from a desert like texture to something with grass.  Like the draw distance is very low.  Only airport I have noticed this so far.

Anyone else seeing this?

Where will the airport be installed? MSFS is on my drive: D

There's an exe that located my install location and community folder automatically. It'll install into the community folder once you run that exe.

Nice additional airport to get. I'll happily hoover up any quality freeware addons like this.

The Orbx textures on tower bridge, the shard and the Houses of Parliament/Big Ben are not good, and the criticism is well deserved.  What would have been smarter, is to release the landmarks that DON'T exist in the product and leave default ones alone.  In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that is exactly what they are going to do, because they said they will issue a patch to deal with the low res textures on "some of the landmarks".  Easy fix, restore the default Parliament House, Tower Bridge and Shard and problem solved.  Yes some of the other buildings will not have high res textures, but they will be the correct shape and will be recognizable.

In my opinion, all custom buildings should have high resolution textures in addon packages. This is 2020, not 1990.

Installed, looks great. Thanks for posting and thanks Aerosoft!

I installed it earlier today but, haven't found the time to startup the sim and check it out.  I have their first cut installed that I got directly from Aerosoft and I did notice the wide area improvements.

I remember Aerosoft said to make sure we look for their CRJ (they are building a high end CRJ for MFS20 also) at the airport in the final version, which this should be.

I don't know about that, this is after all a new platform so I'm assuming the texture quality needs to be on par with the actual simulator?

Is Heathrow in Premium ms2020 that approx size? As with ORBX i dont believe none of these last week releases are native of the new platform.

They seem to be converted of previous platforms thus accumulating files and bytes that in a native version would be simplified

Nice I guess they are testing the waters and seeing how things work?  Or just feeling generous.  Or both

That and also they are making good money selling the boxed version of MSFS

AVSIM never ceases to amaze... even with free gifts, people are complaining.

So is there any gift that anyone could give you that you wouldn't be thrilled with?  It always amazes me that people are amazed because they don't see the world like them or think like them or value things the same way.   Personally I just finished downloading and I am happy that it was free and I'm sure I will like it.

Already done, released 22nd August 2020, five days ago.

Have you been away, or are you trying to revive a dead topic?

Not the Marketplace version.

Interesting....

Heathrow on the delux edition has a folder for scenery which is 54meg.

ORBX City airport is around 3 gig of which the scenery folder is 2 gig and this airport is 3.6 gig.

Suggests to me that optimisations are more than possible, but have no idea if any part of heathrow is covered elsewhere or whether the file is just the upgrades from standard.
