September 17, 20205 yr I bought a new expensive PC specifically for this new simulator. I had some fun but unfortunately after just a few weeks the computer died on me. I've shipped it back to the vendor and waiting a replacement. In the meantime I'm forced to use my old computer and the only sim I can play is FSX. They released a new patch but I'm still waiting. In FS2020 I had chosen the hot female copilot avatar, now I'm thrilled to find out she will also SOUND like a hot female copilot when she's handling my comms. For now I'm just back on FSX (mostly default, I was never a big addon spender except a few planes). I'm having nostalgia replaying the missions, some are super easy, some are just unfairly difficult (I'm supposed to visually land this plane in thick fog I can't even see 100ft ahead). Bigget gripe is just how basic it feels now, the sounds are unimpressive and terrible, graphics are too, the instruments look blurry, 2D panels that you can only look dead ahead above the panel). I'm bored.
September 17, 20205 yr Ya wanna try XP11 then if can't run MS2020....Fsx..... bloodyhell....its bloody ancient! Regards Paul EGCC
September 17, 20205 yr Fsx? That’s all you have huh? I’m so sorry haha Edited September 17, 20205 yr by ahsmatt7 FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠 Matt Kubanda, 7950X3D, 64GB RAM, RTX 5090@4k, MSFS 2024
September 17, 20205 yr FSX is great. Make the most of it and come back to MSFS when you're set up for it. 😃

Why are we dissing our elderly friend, FSX, for no good reason? That sim has perfectly good sound, the graphics are acceptably sharp and you're definitely not limited to 2D panels "that you can only look dead above". Whilst I don't really fly FSX much these days, it's still a very good sim if you put in a bit of effort and know what you're doing. If you don't want to use payware, there's an abundance of freeware out their that can deliver some excellent simulation experiences. Edit: And, I just realized, that's two-and-a-half thousand posts for me. I can think of no better way to celebrate this momentous milestone than by defending the honor of the old girl, FSX. I hope my old sim is doing well, we had some good times together, didn't we? 🙂 Hope you're all having fun flying, whichever sim you're using today. Cheers! September 17, 20205 yr At least the control settings in FSX are like from year 2020, in MSFS like from year 2006... 😆

For me, FSX is perfectly acceptable for high altitude flight and IFR. At 30000 to 40000 AGL, the old "mesh/landclass" combo of generating convincing out of the window views still creates an adequate suspension of disbelief. But below 10K. FSX starts to become a mess. Autogen is placed willy nilly. The generic "urban textures" don't replicate anything nearing reality, and drawing roads on top of them just causes the roads to get lost in the jumble. Plus landclass errors are very apparent. For example. In Broward County Florida, there is nothing but swamp West of the Sawgrass Expressway. This makes that area very distinctive from the air, as the expressway creates a hard border. In FSX, the landclass doesn't follow that model. So there's now homes where clearly there are not. FS2020 with it's satellite based imagery (thanks to 2 Petabytes of cloud storage) doesn't have this issue. Similarly near Sikorsky Memorial in Stratford CT (my girlfirends neighborhood), The Charles Wheeler wildlife area is completely undeveloped and is accurately depicted in FS2020. But in FSX, that entire area is given suburban landclass and populated with random houses and trees. Completely kills VFR for me. And while I never expected to be able to pick out my home from the air, it is certainly a nice to have. But even if it was just a generic building, simply having the road/building layout correct does wonders, I simply can't go back to FSX for VFR. And if I can get a solid 24FPS in all situations with FS2020 I won't need to go back to FSX for any reason.

Hot copilot who actually is sitting there in the cockpit with you! Sorry, but FSX is still state-of-the-art in the “hot copilot” category!
