But maybe developers such as ORBX have some insider knowledge on this. What I personally, as a customer, would like to see are more sceneries that combine airports and landmarks, like e.g. LOWI. Risk for who? Not for the simmers, in my opinion these addon companies are already dead. Also, this is a flight simulator, not a postcard simulator, although FSXX already give us beautiful landscapes. Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).
September 18, 20205 yr MSFS already has more good scenery than I will ever visit, no need to buy more. I see a bright future for 3 types of addos: 1) Career mode addons, much requested and msfs doesn't have anything like this 2 ) Study level aircraft for hardcore players(because GA are already very good will this be airliner focused) 3) Helis(but could also be an official expansion) Edited September 18, 20205 yr by Volpo

Some like to press buttons on the FMS and gawk at instruments. Some like to fly VFR and look at scenery that looks nice. So I think we've all learned an important lesson here: That there are people who are different from yourself!

At the moment I think it‘s difficult to say whether non-airport scenery add–ons as we know them will thrive in the long run or not. It all depends on how much MSFS/Bing Maps can improve their world and how quickly. I guess it will take 6-12 months until we can really estimate this. At least the general building placement feature will not be needed anymore. Ground texture including color correction is still a benefit as of now. POIs anyway. What I wonder: If blackshark improves their algorithm, how much effort would it be to push such a world update? I noticed that in offline mode the building shapes are still the same. So it must be stored offline. How big would such a patch be? 60GB? That's probably why they only talk about regions of the world to be updated. I also hope that for single buildings (like adding churches, radio antennas) they won't have to replace a whole package. Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved

The last update added power lines to online scenery, are those on offline version? That could answer your question. I do not know how this happened but it was NOT Shack95 who made this original quote. It was, in fact, Claudius. Apologies to Shack95. I simply wanted to say that this is quite a statement. I, for one, hope you are very, very, very wrong. I think it is an amusing fact that some people here have been saying that they are sick of paying thousands of dollars for new scenery for other platforms. It appears to me that we will all go down exactly the same paths for MSFS and we have already started LOL. We have not even started with payware aircraft yet (One Carenado excepted) and it would be very interesting just how many dollars have already been spent upgrading scenery. Given the pace of freeware scenery add-ons and modifications, I would have to guess that it is considerable, historically precedented and inevitable. I am not a Sydneysider, but I cannot wait for this to be released. It looks absolutely fantastic. Cost is going to be a consideration though. Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. Motherboard. September 18, 20205 yr I'm sure ORBX will survive, but they are sitting on a dying branch of simulation: live scenery generated via increasingly more accurate terrain data and then fed into the simulation is the future, IMHO. Buying addon scenery - with the exception of airports - is like having a huge aquarium full of living, exotic and colorful fish, then turning around and plastering the aquarium walls full of images printed off of the net because they "look prettier". MSFS represents the future - with a lot of the promises yet to be fulfilled. ORBX et al. the past.

I could imagine that it‘s much smaller than that, as there is only a limited number of textures, but I don‘t know really. 27 minutes ago, tweekz said: That's probably why they only talk about regions of the world to be updated. As far as I understood it, it has to do with the way the imagery gets updated in Bing Maps, at least that seems to be one of the reasons. Apparently this happens regularly and in a rather chaotic fashion and it‘s easier for them to wait until they have enough new data for a bigger region and then update it instead of constantly updating small patches. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
