So it runs smoothly even at 60hz?

You need to buy a high quality hdmi cable

This one - for the length and quality this is it - 4k/8k

The prices for the 2080 are quite a bit higher than for the 3080. I'm just going to wait for the 3080 and get a 4k tv in the mean time.

3080 all the way brother - you will be happy camper - I just built a new rig - all rigid chrome tubing / distribution plate 2 rads and gpu waterblock so I have to wait a bit on 3080 -  I am trying to get pics to show but cant figure out how to take a decent pic - ill get it done soon - its an awesome build

And here I thought I had settled on getting a 1440 21:9 monitor instead of a 32" 4K......*sigh* back to waffling.

New build here too just before MSFS 2020 came out. If I would have known I would have got a 2080.

I hear ya. Once you get 4K and get used to it, anything below that is like going back in time.

I have one of those also I have LG 1440 32" - Sony 4k smokes it - bit of jaggies on the LG and everything cranked - so I know the difference between the two - no comparison

Rob A told me about this years ago thats why he uses 4k tvs much bigger than mine - 43" for me is quite large for distance I am from it -  any bigger would be not usable for me anyway

Yeah more thinking about the aspect ratios vs just the resolution I would love a 32:9 monitor but don't think that will happen yet lol

It is like that for me too.  And I find the gauges/VC's so much better in 4K -- readable in many cases.

I am presently going with 4K with "High" preset, with Rendering at 80, and with a few things tweaked here and there.  My 32" BenQ monitor is currently refreshing at 60hz, but it is capable of 29/30/50 hz.  MSFS -- in my testing so far -- doesn't seem to handle 30hz / 30 fps as smoothly as P3Dv5 does at the same resolution, but I haven't fully tested things yet.

It will be a long time before I have settled on a sweet spot in terms of settings though.  I still feel like a neophyte with this sim.

I have a similar system as yours.  I find running in 1920X1080 with Render scaling set to 130 gets rid of most jaggies.  I think the key in lower reses is to have render scaling set high.

You won't regret going to 4K. That's my setup too. I just finished the last piece to building my new rig solely for MSFS 2020. I fly at 4k ultra settings with a Samsung 55" 4K HDR tv and the visuals are just absolutely stunning. A big screen 4K TV is definitely a worthy investment especially for flight simming. The larger screen size makes it much more immersive. And try to get an HDMI 2.1 cable at least.

Thanks everyone. There's no way to get rid of the jagged lines with a lower resolution? I read something that about changing the image sharpening but forgot where I read it.

I have a 2060 at 1440p and do not have this issue.

Consider setting vsync to 30 fps (your monitor rate) and then winding the render scaling up to 150/200 somewhere and see how it goes.

The 2060 will struggle at 4K and will probably also struggle to ray trace at 1440p once RT is in game - however the game runs fine at 1440p 30/40 fps with a few tweaks UNLESS your doing something like holding short in a 747 at O'Hare with all AI traffic turned up in a thunderstorm in which case we are talking 2 fps .

Your really pushing your gpu on a 4k pc monitor - 4k tv is a different ball game - tried with P3D it was day and night when it comes to jaggies low settings look great so of course I had to buy a newer Sony for MSFS2020

Hi Richard. I have the same  Sony TV and cable you suggested coming in 2 days. Amazon has a nice sale for $448 happening now. Is their anything special I need to do to setup the TV for MSFS?  I have my 1080ti back in for a bit until the 3080's are back in stock. 2060 super sucks in my opinion.

Sorry to ask basics here 🙂    I am putting together the specs for a new machine and i saw this about 4k tv's rather than monitors.   Based on where my computer is etc.. I need to keep the size down to about 27" or 28".  Is your advice still to look for a TV rather than a monitor for this?

For the first time ever I am in a position to just go for it.. so the specs I am looking at for the new machine are in the order of (not fully decided yet)...

i9 10900 3.7 ghz on an asus rog rampage board  with 64GB 3000Mhz RAM

3090 24gByte card and m2 disks.

I have been looking at monitors etc this week so the above is very timely.  Next stage is watercooling or air..  I see lots of debates about that as well 🙂

Regards

Graham

Edit.. am hoping to improve my old workhorse here of i7 8700  with 32 gig 2400 RAM and a 1060 8 gb card 🙂

System specs...   CPU AMD5950,  GPU AMD6900XT,  ROG crosshair VIII Hero motherboard, Corsair 64 gig LPX 3600 mem, Air cooling on GPU,   Kraken x pump cooling on CPU.  Samsung G7 curved 27" monitor at 2k resolution ULTRA default settings.

Hello Moria.  Just my thoughts on some points to consider.  I have looked at lots of this over the last 18 months.

A TV might be great for the view, but a large TV might bring on a 'tennis match' effect, where you are constantly looking left and right around the screen.  A high quality 4k monitor that mainly fills you vision area might be a better option - this is subjective of course.

Also, on the RAM, I have seen a lot of tests (Gamer Nexus etc.).  They never saw anything use more than 32GB, but the sweet spot is 3600MHz on the frequency (look  at latency also of course, around CL16 would be brilliant), so I would go for that personally.  With the way the boards work at the moment, it was shown that there is minimal gain after 3600, so the 4000MHz etc. is just wasted money.  I say target 3600 and lower latency, and that will feed the rest of your setup just great.  If in doubt, watch some recent youtube videos on RAM - Gamer Nexus, Jays Two Cents, Linus Tech Tips etc. - all well trusted and they test top spec stuff properly.

I am just worried that with the spec of your processor, m.2 drives, and GPU, which are all great, the 3000MHz RAM might just hold it back a touch, as especially with a bit of water cooling and voltage optimisation, you should be able to get the 10900 to hold at a stable 5GHz.

That thing should then really fly with a spec like this. 👍
I have similar to above, but only with a 1080Ti which is holding it back.  I am waiting for an RTX1080, or may now consider an upper range AMD if the price/performance is right, due to the extra VRAM they are offering, compared to the 3080 10GB, which I think may be a limiting factor in 4k DX12 with all the sliders cranked up.  Your 3090 will eat it for breakfast of course.  Hmm, if only I had a magic money tree!  😉
