Does anyone know if a 4790k could cope with 4K 43’ or even 1440p 31’ if I upgrade my card to the new 6800xt coming? Or do I need a new system entirely?

4790k/32gb/1070/1080p 27’ system.

Hello Moria.  Just my thoughts on some points to consider.  I have looked at lots of this over the last 18 months.

A TV might be great for the view, but a large TV might bring on a 'tennis match' effect, where you are constantly looking left and right around the screen.  A high quality 4k monitor that mainly fills you vision area might be a better option - this is subjective of course.

Also, on the RAM, I have seen a lot of tests (Gamer Nexus etc.).  They never saw anything use more than 32GB, but the sweet spot is 3600MHz on the frequency (look  at latency also of course, around CL16 would be brilliant), so I would go for that personally.  With the way the boards work at the moment, it was shown that there is minimal gain after 3600, so the 4000MHz etc. is just wasted money.  I say target 3600 and lower latency, and that will feed the rest of your setup just great.  If in doubt, watch some recent youtube videos on RAM - Gamer Nexus, Jays Two Cents, Linus Tech Tips etc. - all well trusted and they test top spec stuff properly.

I am just worried that with the spec of your processor, m.2 drives, and GPU, which are all great, the 3000MHz RAM might just hold it back a touch, as especially with a bit of water cooling and voltage optimisation, you should be able to get the 10900 to hold at a stable 5GHz.

That thing should then really fly with a spec like this. 👍
I have similar to above, but only with a 1080Ti which is holding it back.  I am waiting for an RTX1080, or may now consider an upper range AMD if the price/performance is right, due to the extra VRAM they are offering, compared to the 3080 10GB, which I think may be a limiting factor in 4k DX12 with all the sliders cranked up.  Your 3090 will eat it for breakfast of course.  Hmm, if only I had a magic money tree!  😉

Many thanks for the comprehensive reply 🙂

Yeah the head hunting is why I am going to have to stick to a 27/28" monitor..  anything bigger and I'll be dizzy as heck.

As to the memory.. thank you.. will upgrade my thoughts to 3600 and step back to 32Gig if needed.

Again  thanks.

Hi Richard. I have the same  Sony TV and cable you suggested coming in 2 days. Amazon has a nice sale for $448 happening now. Is their anything special I need to do to setup the TV for MSFS?  I have my 1080ti back in for a bit until the 3080's are back in stock. 2060 super sucks in my opinion.

Hi Tony

Its a great TV but I have noticed one issue not a show stopper but more of an annoyance - I was online with Sony all day not resolved - finally higher level support called me next day

Seems to be an issue with picture mode when pc starts its laggy - the mouse movement and few desktop shortcuts discolored - its not remembering game mode I have to use remote to change picture mode like to two other settings then bring it back to game mode every fresh start

A pc re-start it doesnt do it - may be a dissconnect somehow with my video card - 2080 super - support said that others have seen this - played with video drivers didnt help - maybe something in bios as I think about it now - have to look into that

That said not a big deal but didnt see this with my last version of this tv - I bought open box so cant return it as I didnt have my new build done within 30 days

Let me know how you make out it has to be in game mode for non laggy mouse movement -  other than this issue looks amazing

I cranked up the render scale on the sim to 150, and it shows 5160x2160 and the visuals are just sublime.

Does this get even better when you actually have a 4K monitor?  I am in the research stage of my monitor shopping and really hoping this gets even better than what I am seeing now.

I never had a 4k pc monitor cant comment but what I can tell you is no way you need to crank all your graphics settings up with 4k tv and especially now with last update AA is superb - I have only 4x now and the other setting off in game - cant remember both terminologies you know what I mean the settings after TAA - I have TAA on - run 100% render scale with tv dont mess with that no need

That’s good to know.  I am trying to simulate what frame rates will be at 4K before I make the final commitment.  I would run at 100 for render scale when and if I do buy the 4K equipment.

I’m hopeful this is a reasonable way to simulate it for now.  New York was in a very tight range of 48 to 53 FPS like this, and seemingly every other place has been as well.

Hi Rich,

Can you run 2K on this TV? I have been thinking of upgrading my 42" 1080P LED TV to a 4K TV but I am not sure my 1080TI will handle 4K, it does a pretty decent job at 1080P with decent settings incl TLA and still has some headroom.

I have been on the fence for a 4K TV for a while but not been brave enough to pull the trigger lol

After going through this thread I decided to give 4k a try (Ryzen 3600, 2070 Super, 16gb). I turned down the rendering to 80, moved everything to Medium (previously on High) except left the clouds at Ultra, and turned off Anisotropic and supersampling.

Results were surprising as the sim runs consistently around 35-40fps at a small rural airport and 30-35fps at KLAX, both tests were with the TBM, live weather, with and with out cloud cover.

The best thing that happened was it got rid of the pixelated clouds issue at distance.

I have the same TV coming tomorrow. I'll be testing with a 1080ti and a 2060 super. I'll let you know how it runs in 4K.
