Quite sad but possible explanation of poor Asobo's quality

The only difference is that on those other sites, most of the threads are screenshots of sunrises, etc. and the critical threads are buried.

Yep, nothing but sunsets here.

And all sorts of critical threads are being buried here.

And here.

Like this one, which is so monstrous that it's still on the first page of the section, with 900 posts, 2.5 months later.

Of course, there's always this one, which granted is only a day old, but with its 150 posts and 2000 views it's no wonder the mods have sunk it to, let me check.  Yep, it's buried on the first page.

Avsim is definitely the only place with substantive flight sim discussion.

Speaking of comedy...

Most of those "add-ons" are soccer stadiums and other "landmarks" ripped from Google Maps. Almost all of the best scenery add-ons for MSFS are payware.

On one site, out of 78 sceneries, not a single stadium to be seen. Avsim has 16 sceneries.

The same site has about 40 textures & aircraft,  Avsim has 1x aircraft & 5 textures.

Yet anothr site has 49 sceneries, also not a single stadium, & 2 aircraft & 52 textures.

We are talking about freeware, community support, NOT payware!

Mmm, I wonder where the soccer stadiums are?

Now that's a great point, I must admit.   To demonstrate it for everyone, I've taken the effort to screenshot the current front page of /r/FS2020Creation and blur out the handful of small things that aren't stadia or quick Google rips.

I really don't understand the point of your last para. MS/Asobo has already agreed with the principle of reinstating betas but currently that's not scheduled until Update 9. I agree with your premise that they should suspend further updates until they have a beta programme in place.

That's exactly my point, too. X-Plane had enough poisoned betas but you always have the option to return to a stable version. I think implementing a beta-branch is paramount before any further code changes are done. Update 9 is too late.

But aside this, I am more than happy with the state of development, enjoy the work Asobo has done and have high respect for them and, besides, the open style of their communication, notably in comparison to other flightsim devs.

Kind regards, Michael

The frequency and size of the patches also indicates that the sim was pushed to release prematurely.

That was not Asobo's decision, that was Microsoft.  I'm pretty sure Asobo would have preferred a later release themselves.

Same here.

And I think one thing that people tend to overlook is that, as the developer, Asobo had little say in the timing of the final release.   That decision is up to the publisher, in this case Microsoft.  Perhaps the sim could have used 6 months more of baking, and perhaps they asked for it and didn't get it.  Who among us knows?  Placing the blame upon folks who seem to be trying their darnedest to deliver us a groundbreaking sim while not having many of the business decisions in their hands seems rather churlish.

What I do know is that every update has brought with it notable improvements, albeit not without backsliding in some cases, and that many times more people are having positive experiences than negative.   And, yes, a string of high-profile problems may not be great for the overall image.   But I think that outside of places like Avsim where bitterness and negativity sometimes seem to be a national pastime, the "image" is just fine, overall.

Strange, not a sunset to be seen on that Reddit page that you linked.

The other links are all to flightsimulator.com, That is MS's site? So complaints should go there.

Thanks for that creative FS2020Creation screen grab.

You blanked out a test of Lake Louise scenery, Black Rock City, a placeable object in the SDK,  and a whole bunch of other stuff.. still no stadia.

In any case, I was, if you were not aware, referring to other long established sites, broad spectrum, as it were, for the whole FS community, not dedicated MSFS sites.

You seem to have missed the irony in that post.

I'm as outspoken an opponent of "Avsim exceptionalism" as anyone here.  Maybe I need to be more so 🙂

Unless you're are the one being ironic and I'm not picking up on it. 😛

Here's my favorite. A 24/7 Twitch stream of MSFS sunrises:

Someone has already rebutted your statement in this thread. I've decided that your only purpose posting on AVSim is to get threads locked, so I won't give you that pleasure.

They announced the release of the sim back in June. 4/5 months into the pandemic, they should of known by then if working remotley was causeing quality control issues and not announced the release if that was the case. Also, if theres any sector that can cope working remotley, it IT related.

I've already stopped my Xbox sub and uninstalled the sim and will look at it again in about 12months time see if things have improved.

If you're talking about my response that was not a rebuttal.  I'm with @Wobbie on this one, but since my sarcasm is apparently too subtle for this thread I'll make it more clear:

Avsim is great, but it also has some major flaws.  One of them is a mile-wide streak of exceptionalism where a body of users refuse to believe that any other discussion site is anything close to as good as this one, and that they're all populated by nothing but unskilled kids and superficial screenshotters.  Your sneering comments about pictures of sunsets being the primary content at "other places" is a prime example of that, and I was demonstrating that every statement you made was easily refuted by simply visiting those sites with an open mind.

It's as though people never actually go elsewhere but just regurgitate the group-think that that body of users here maintain.  And it's detrimental to this site and gives it a bad name elsewhere.   The arrogance should be toned down a notch.  Or ten.

It that more clear?

(And if, given my contributions here, you want to say that my only purpose on Avsim is to get threads locked as well, well... that's not even worth a response.)
