I almost reinstalled P3Dv4, but...

Featured Replies

I almost reinstalled P3Dv4 due to the current  issues in MSFS, but after cataloging all the add ons, download links, passwords, etc. I had to muddle through I decided it was just not worth it.

MSFS for all its shortcomings is just so much less work: install, drop a few mods in the community folder... done.

Kind of puts it into perspective, yes it’s a bit rough right now in MSFS but not nearly as bad as we might think it is at times...🤔

plus few applications that you'd run, fiddle around in the scenery xml, get the order working, fiddle around with the config and keep restarting.. etc. Oh boy, this is too much work and I realized I have no patience with all this, 😅

My thoughts exactly!!!😜

Yes, but...

This is what I did: (and I'm happy with it)

I got P3Dv5. I installed it. I only installed the basics vis. Chaseplane and FSUIPC. I only installed my favorite aircraft and a few airports. That's it. No weather program, no traffic generator, no GSX, no etc.

What I have is an alternative to MSFS and access to my tried and true friends. The best of both worlds. (P3Dv5 really is a much better P3D, imo)

Yeah that would be a way to go... but because I would not be happy with P3Dv4 without the add ons I just stopped.

Don’t have P3Dv5 and would not buy it at this point.

Just going through all those add ons and seeing how much I spent (looking at receipts for download links, passwords, etc.) I know I don’t want to go down that rabbit hole rabbit 🐇 hole🕳 again!!!

I hate to say it, but that is what I love about this hobby also a little bit, tweaking, trying, installing......

Install this hardware, add this software to make it just a little bit better...

Simmers will never be happy, they allways want the sim to look better, I have a feeling it is not going to be different with MSFS in a few years 😉

In fact I am already using with the new sim: LINDA, FsUIPC, Mobiflight, Air Manager, Navigraph Simlink, Panel Position for undocked windows and I only have the Mooney M20R installed 🤪

Can I ask why people uninstalled the other sims in the first place? Is it a space issue, a conflict issue, etc... I'm not a big addon person in any sim, even the new one. And knowing that MSFS has a lot of work to be done, especially for the big iron people, ( well actually a lot of aircraft ), why uninstall in the first place, if you spent that much money, and it took that long to install and get it right? Just wondering. I still fly FSX-SE for my Kodiak mainly, and XP-11, for a few planes I have. But 90-95% of my time is in MSFS for GA, making bush trips, landing challenges, multiplayer, and of course the big one, the scenery.

I would think if you can, you would fly them all, when you feel like it? Or are you a one sim person and don't want to be distracted with the others? I am also an OCD type person and all those Free 3rd party addon's, which are great just bothers me, seeing 20-30 mod's in the Community folder. And plugin's causing issue's with other plugin's, no thank you!

Except when people like @rob0203 enjoy that part of the hobby, tinkering and such. Why we are all different.

Have fun with ALL your sim(s) everyone. Look at all the choices we have now! And each has their good and bad things.

  1. Waste of space and having to manage and organize add-ons for multiple sims can get frustrating.
  2. Looks outdated and graphics are horrible, especially after flying in MSFS and then going back to P3D v5/XP11 with full blown addons, it feels like such an antique sim.
  3. I like to invest my money into a truly next gen sim. Having other sims installed may give me a slight urge to spend even more money on add-ons for a sim that's outdated. By having them uninstalled. I don't need to worry about that urge anymore. I get to save that money and invest it on add-ons for MSFS instead where I'll get greater satisfaction in return.
  4. MSFS is the future.

I've uninstalled XP since I got in the beta and p3d since I moved to XP 11. The there is no way I'd ever go back to either at this point

Yeah I was mainly asking people that had aircraft, airports, etc...  that are not available in MSFS, or are not up to their standards yet? Just seems like a lot of trouble to uninstall a sim, when TRYING out a new one. And by now the information is everywhere, about the state of the sim for some people. For me as a casual, fun simmer it is fine and I enjoy the updates, for those that spent hundreds and thousands of dollars, to get their sim, just right, not so much. But I do know there are a few people who have NOT purchased the sim, and will take a look again in the future.

For me, FSX-SE and XP-11 are both on Steam. In 30 minutes to 1 hour, both are downloaded and ready to fly. Just a few 3rd party addon's and I am racking and rolling 🙂 But that's just me. I don't mess with tweaking, or config files, ( which I know some people enjoy as part of the hobby ) or add liveries and change that stuff manually. Which again I get why people enjoy it, just not me! Let's say we have 2 million simmers of all the sim's? We have 2 million people flying, tweaking, not tweaking, adding, uninstalling, and NOT one is the same as the other. Unless it's just the base sim of any of them, which I doubt for long that is the case 🙂

Have FUN everyone! Time to go see if Big Foot is in MSFS 🙂 He has to be, right?

Does the Steam install already have all the Service packs? I was thinking that it might just be easier to grab it since it is so cheap. And might be easier than trying to find my FX install discs and then do all the updates 😂🤣😂

For me it comes down to buying a new system specifically for MSFS (previously ran P3Dv4 on a gaming laptop that barely could run MSFS).

That was also a motivation in installing P3Dv4, at first, wondering how much better it would run on the new system.

However, @captain420 makes some really good points too!

When I was still flying p3d, I always dreaded doing reinstalls. It would take me a week just to get everything installed and back to the way I wanted. Orbx, fsuip, tweaks, etc. It was a nightmare. Then I moved to XP 11 and it was a little less hectic.

I almost installed X-Plane again while waiting for Asobo to fix this mess and because I miss the RXP GTN but decided not to because I had one HDD die on me with all the ortho scenery I have made to date and I don't have the patience to do it all again  and because I couldn't stand flying with those clouds again after flying in MSFS.
