"Live" snow...is it working or not?

To me MSFS looks to be more accurate given the situation there this morning.  I know it isn't always though.

Based on reports from over several months it appears to be in some cases sporadic and in other cases (world) regional.  Seems from what I have seen that often the closer you are to Asobo the more accurate the weather.

NYC is looking good

This is Asobo's live weather, taken about 5 minutes ago, I set the time to noon though to see it better.

What the heck, I had more snow/ice appear while I flying around. Apparently the default live weather supports ice/snow buildup?

Looking at webcams in the city, the water is ice free
So here's an example of too much snow/ice to contrast with all the reports that there isn't enough

This was 25 minutes later

And this was taken 10 minutes after that,

and even more 9 minutes after that image.

Oh wow, there was a snowstorm last night, got up and there's snow in the sim.

The last time it snowed hard it took a little over a week for it to appear in the sim.

This should be fixed/overworked so its seen at a mutch lower height - IMO.

cheers 😉

While I completely agree with you, it is a great improvement that snow is presented based off of weather and data reports and not just because of what day it is in the year. A big leap forward in rethinking how weather is treated including how it can accumulate. Well done Asobo...now can you just tweak it some more.

I'm seeing snow all over Texas. I dunno if there's as much as there should be, but it's there.

I can't use live weather in British Columbia because everything is always buried in snow up there, roads, towns, airports, runways, taxiways. No snow plows so everything is mostly hidden under snow.

Plenty of snow yesterday around the Stockholm area of Sweden - looked absolutely amazing...

This is what KDAL looks like right now on Mon 12:45. That’s 13L.

It hasn’t worked well for me in the US in the past, but it is working great today! I just did a flight from KOMA to KORD, and had heavy snow coverage on the ground throughout the flight. The weather in KOMA was mostly clear (and negative 23C !) , but the airport and surrounding terrain had deep snow from previous storms. There was snow-covered ground as far as the eye could see at cruise until the terrain became obscured by clouds, and there was snow falling with low vis on approach into Chicago, which matched the current r/w weather.

Yeah not quite the same snow cover in the sim. But at least it's actually there.

I think I even found the same angle your pictures are from heh. Building shape matches.

Good job!! Pretty similar looking photo from sim vs real. Yeah, your right, the sim isn’t picking up all the snow but better than nothing.

Plus, that new hangar isn’t close enough to Lemmon Ave as they show it in MSFS.

Assuming we’re looking at the same one, it’s missing completely.

which is odd, it’s in the Bing imagery.
Might be missing from the outdated Open Street Map data MSFS uses.

In some parts of italy, the live snow is completely missing. In sicily, on Etna, no snow at all, even though  on Meteoblue is showing accumulating snow.

A glance at weathermaps and news reports should have given you the answer.

Yes. That is correct.
