Surprised by Track IR

Featured Replies

I have had a Track IR for years, and really  never used it much. It used to glitch, and go crazy every once in awhile, and I just stopped connecting it up, but kept the unit on top of my monitor. Now that I have a new PC and MSFS 2020, I decided to give it a try, but I lost my purchase and couldn't figure out how to connect it again. I was thinking that since it had to be at least 10 years old , it was probably obsolete and ready for the trash can. I decided to go to the track IR website this morning and filled out a form asking for technical help. The only thing I had was the serial number on the bottom of the unit. Within a couple of hours I got an email from their tech support, with all the information I needed to log onto the software and activate my unit. I am flying with it now, and it is working perfectly. Much better than it did on my old PC. Glad I didn't give up on it, and KUDOs to their tech support.

For me the TrackIR is as essential as controls, rudder pedals etc.

Same here. I got the new software and reactivated it after about 8 years.

Unfortunately, because I am not used to it after so long, after about 45 minutes it gave me a headache and made me feel slightly sick!

Apparently, VR can be like this until you get used to it.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Well now the bad news. Two flights with the track IR ended within about 20 minutes each with a CTD..... I am now flying the exact same flight with Track IR off, and so far so good.

Well I just looked at the email Tech support sent me again, and I may have downloaded the wrong version of the software.  I downloaded the one he recommended and after this flight is over, going to install that, and try again.

Been flying with TIR since they supported it in alpha.  Never had a CTD due to TIR.

Bob, can you try the same flight again on a lower setting, as an example if on high go to medium for all options. Just to see if it cures it.

I am going to try the software version he recommended first and see what happens.

Many older USB devices,  and for that matter many USB devices in general,  seem to function better on USB 2.0 ports.      USB 3 ports are intended to be backwards compatible,   but sometimes that works better in theory than in practice.

Powered external USB hubs seem to cure many USB issues as well.

I have the track IR into a USB 2 port.

This is certainly true with Saitek/Logitech panels and add ons.

If you set your response curves so there's a small dead zone at the center, it will probably help with your headache vertigo issue. Once set up, I find TIR very natural to use in the cockpit.

One of the biggest pains of being an alpha tester, was the inability to use TIR in MSFS. Essential tool, refuse to fly without it.

Probably there was some other light source that it was seeing. In the TrackIR software if you right click and select Camera View you should just see the 3 green LEDs from your tracker. If you're seeing some other blobs show up that's interference from some other light source and that will cause it to glitch the view occasionally.

Yes, I checked all that, I think the problem was the software version I was using. It was an older version than what tech support told me to install which is the latest version. Might not have been tested with MSfs 2020.

I'm using it for almost 10 years now.

Since I got back into flight simming lately and start using MSFS I can't get it to snap back to default position when I pause it. Anybody else with this issue?

The crazy movements happened to me too but I found the culprit. When the sun was shining on the wall behind me it went nuts. When I put down the blinds, it stopped.
