interesting, I wonder if this actually makes a difference

If what CptLucky8 is saying is true about the way DirectX handles the RAM buffer to VRAM, that is a strange behavior.  In any case, you still need to measure the difference in performance between 32 GB of RAM and 64 GB of RAM.  The difference in performance could be negligible.

I can tell you that I upgraded from 16 GB of RAM to 24 GB of RAM and when I turn off all my other applications in Windows, the difference in performance for me is not noticeable.  The main advantage for me with 24 GB of RAM is that I can keep a lot of applications open when I play MSFS that I couldn't keep open with 16 GB of RAM.  But for me, if I turn off all the other applications when I play MSFS, MSFS seems to run the same for me with 16 GB of RAM and 24 GB of RAM.

Yeah, from what I know about computers and RAM I dont see this helping unless you are close to maxing out your existing ram and start using alot of the page file.  I have 32GB but never use more than about 20-25GB.

So what MSFS needs is a $2,500 upgrade to work best, it was said last year that a sim was coming that would not need expensive upgrades like the other sims 🤑.

MSFS does not "need" any of this... this is just techies playing with their toys... Note how the theory is that a 32 GB RAM cache might be helpful... hardly convincing 😉

Well to be honest seeming as I only have a 3070 with 8GB of VRAM and an ITX board with two slots so no room to go past my current 32GB I do not think I will be trying it out any time soon.

There is of course plenty of 32GB sticks at work I could use for a test but its all ECC or even LRDIMM  😄

But you do realizes FS2020 utilizes available RAM when VRAM exceeded the video card budget.

I have a 6GB and FS2020 often runs into 8GB vram usage depending on the area.  And you can see that with the FPS in game counter

That's a feature that P3D is currently lack of and suffering from VRAM issues.

My v5.1 HF 1 is constantly crashing, with FS2020, NONE, but of course, before 5.1, i never had any CTD as well

I currently have 48GB of ram

So when it goes to DX12 128GB of ram may be better 🤣.

Recently upgraded to 32 gb RAM to go with my RTX3070 and didn't really notice much of a difference other than a slight perception of the sim running a bit smoother. On the other hand, my upgrade to a 5600x CPU from a 2700 pretty much doubled my FPS and improved performance considerably in other areas.  Maxing out in game graphics and videocard settings will bring any system to its knees though especially once you start introducing add-ons. Even with my system, whilst I have all the game settings on ultra, there are a few settings I have turned off/down in the videocard software.

Note: My system is fine for 1080 rez but I think it might struggle with 4k.

TBH the only thing I have seen that multiple people confirm is better with 64GB of ram is the sim can handle more time acceleration.

It does seem a lot of money if all you get is faster time acceleration.

I do not think the use of fast unused video ram for extra processing is not a MSFS thing but a Windows 10 option,

I’ll let you know as I have 3090 and 32GB platinum 3200hz Corsair RAM. I’ve just ordered another 32 GB to test this theory out after reading it last night.
