March 7, 20215 yr Noel, if you had a simple mind; we wouldn't be friends. Despite the fact that I can't get the picture of those dancing zombies out of my head. LOL Sue Edited March 7, 20215 yr by Penzoil3
March 7, 20215 yr Moderator I was 'forced' to attend a live performance of Riverdance about 25 years ago while still in residence at my order's Motherhouse in New Jersey. It apparently annoyed my Irish "Brother" 'cause he kept elbowing me in the ribs and muttering "Stay awake and quit snoring!" Fr. March 10, 20215 yr Author This thread has gone from musicals to Irish Step Dancing to the Zombie Twostep. This evening I saw a wonderful old movie called The Green Years about a young Irish Catholic orphan boy growing up with his step family in Scotland. In a short segment of the movie were the Highland Games with lots of bagpipe music and caber tosses. It reminded me of the Scottish Highland games held every fall in Estes Park Colorado. We went up every year enjpyiing the festivities and sipping wee drams of The Glenlivit. I think one of my Viking ancestors might have dragged a Scotswoman back from one of their raids because I'm the only person I know who loves bagpipe music. It also brought back to me the discussion we just had here of Irish Step Dancing. One year the Queen's Scots Guards attended the Highland Festival in Estes park. At one point these burly 200+ pound Scotsmen laid crossed swords at their feet and toe danced among the swords and their toes never touched steel. They were magnificent. I was so impressed with their performance and their bagpipe rendition of Scotland The Great that I called the British Embassy in Washington and got an address so I could write a letter to the Queen thanking her for allowing them to come to Estes Park. I never expected a reply but I got one. Not from the Queen of course, but from a Brigadier on Buckingham Palace Stationery. I'm not prone to collecting keepsakes but that is one of my treasured possessions. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
March 10, 20215 yr Wow, neat, Noel. I'd cherish that too. You got this one right. LOL Sue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_sword_dances
March 10, 20215 yr Author When I saw them three of them were dancing side by side in unison at the same time. Here s an example of the dance by the Scots Guard in 2014 at Estes Park more than 20 years after I saw them. https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?fr=yhs-omr-001&ei=UTF-8&hsimp=yhs-001&hspart=omr¶m1=y6bdVFVIsvuYsgEClQfz8PA1eDUSqCD4E%2F2vvJ5Xn6km1OVdpt6xaorZCiq2Zb4wrE%2BqHC6BaOc6lgGcH%2FovMU1eBLS6KZb68HlDs9GYMNUV4jzUiXwhERfZudMXVCokzWmO7r9LdUUZ4lAn66YKVZULxnycPc1np83XIoigi9EQmp0xlD33vh1mcii8B%2F57f2BczwHHbg5KXZNuymNisTiBQnRzOQ0GTKIu9Ysk1OeRHZVmHOP4RZeI4vEdfvl5H%2BfjtME7kD%2B%2FhZAbIBHhkiT1ip2y%2BFxzX%2BrCV%2BmjHnA%3D&p=scottish+sword+dance+video&type=813167280&guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYXZzaW0uY29tL2ZvcnVtcy90b3BpYy81OTY0OTctbXVzaWNhbHMvcGFnZS8zLz90YWI9Y29tbWVudHM&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAGvddzUUeITbUT_IVXzMqx4hLOtZewtPe2bPAsSaE3jKA_0jCQyKYc3QIKEHm-LgVUkHqkiznS8jO6nAdYkrbKRCd8LzzYv3oZW2PmURKuHHkq1AbM6XOUgTLJYXoFS56u2F0Jbd3xDFa8CpDTxHx3BNAEZfXB5dftYipm9-5Ku4#id=5&vid=dfd4e5baa308f40c3e9c588438725895&action=view Noel Edited March 10, 20215 yr by birdguy The tires are worn. March 13, 20215 yr One of the interesting things to watch on movies of musicals, is the cuts and edits, which often give away whether the performers could pull the entire routing off in one go. And if you want to see someone who could do that, check out Doris Day in Calamity Jane, which is great fun, but notable for having her perform some stuff where there is a lot of quite impressive all in one shot choreography from the wonderful Doris Day in the title role. Gene Kelly is another one who could do that stuff no problem as well. But, what I really like, is this one. Who knew Arnie, Jessie Ventura and crew could pull this kind of thing off eh? Gedd doo dee jopppaaaar! Edited March 13, 20215 yr by Chock Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

It was something I had never seen before, and I enjoyed thinking of the skill and years of practice and dedication it must have required. Just recently I stumbled across some dancing and music I never knew even existed and was floored. So many things in this world I will never know about.....
