I'm pretty much forced to now but it wouldn't be much different if I could run amok.

Maybe when there are more cool planes.

Cheers

Yes, but only because I have other stuff I like doing as well, such as music, which I like as much as I like aeroplanes, which is a lot of course. But it does mean I could cheerfully spend all day faffing around creating music and never crank up a flight sim. Of course anyone who plays guitars will know that you have to also get past the phase where you're always buying guitars too. 🤣

Like Alan, I have other things I like to do. I've been playing golf for 54 years and playing the piano for 67 years. Just between those two alone I can go for days never even taking a flight..........Doug

P.S: And the nice thing about a piano is you're not tempted to go out and buy them very often 🙂   (I just wish I could say the same thing about golf clubs).

It's not a habit! It's a life!!🙃

Not very popular these days but reading.  If I had to give up one it would be flight simming.

I grew up in a houseful of books with parents who were always reading a book or two at a time.  It was contagous.  Especially when my father would sneak books to me and say, "Don't let your mother see this; books banned by the church."

And thanks Sue for the Nook book you just loaned me.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I think you mean 'disapproved of by'. As much as I daresay they'd like to be, I'm not sure they're in a position to actually ban stuff. 🤣

I agree with you though, I'd not be without my books.

I voted "no".  My self-control in not spending a couple thousand dollars on a new flight sim computer is not due to self-control, but rather a lack of video card availability and the insane, scalper prices for the few video cards that make it to the open market.

Habit?  What Habit?  It's a full on addiction!  Unfortunately, I've only had time for one or two flights all year due to my work at Snakebyte and Aerosoft.  After 8+ hours (sometimes 16+) working on the computer, the last thing i want to do is spend another 3 to 6 hours sitting in front of the thing.

The best way to lose a hobby is to start making it a business.

No, I meant banned.  Of course they can't physically prevent you from reading them but they make it sin to read them which, for the devout, is a pretty powerful deterrent.

My mother was a very devout Catholic which is why my father had to sneak books like Anatole France's 'Penguin Island' and Mark Twain's 'Letters From The Earth' to me and I had to hide them from mom.

Pretty much indoctrination then. Did you overcome it?

Wise words.

The reason they do that, is they don't want people to realise volume one of their own guide book is badly-written, full of plot holes and some seriously questionable ethics. And the sequel is largely a bad re-write. Not that most people actually bother to read them anyway. 🤣

Oh yes.  I overcame it by the time I was in the 8th grade and had to fake it with my mom.  And that's the reason I got kicked out of St Ignatius High school half way through my junior year and why I got a warning and my post here on Thursday was hidden.  Sometimes I tend to push the opinion envelope.
