Server down?

Yeah, I get ya. I had just turned on that graphic hardware thing (forgot what ya call it) It always gave me trouble before when turned on, but updated graphic drivers so I thought I'd try it again. You guessed it, MSFS wouldn't do anything right. So I turned it off, rebooted twice and still MSFS was screwy. Gave up, followed a link to xbox servers and found servers were "limited". 45 minutes down the drain. So I fired up DCS.

They could at least throw in an error message when the online stuff fails instead of just leaving us scratching our heads and messing with our systems trying to fix what is a Microsoft online issue.

*sigh* Last connection outage was just over 2 weeks ago 😞

It is indeed concerning you can’t even access the sim (simply without the online features) when Microsoft is having server issues.

I know about the Xbox offline gaming setting but that only works for a single device. I sometimes use MSFS on my desktop and sometimes on my laptop so that’s not an absolute solution for me.

Made a topic about this on the official forum that could use more votes... 😉 Please have a look if you are interested in better drm.

Maybe the same people running the servers are the people making the updates. 😉

Weeks ago someone suggested the saboteur was still working with Asobo or Microsoft. I’m sure he is still there.

Next time your sim is doing wierd things, check this link, might save some time;

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status

I found that if you play the "hard-headed" game and keep restarting, it eventually will sign you out of Xbox and send you to the above link.

I believe there are more pressing issues in life than MSFS being down for a few hours.

Always someone ready to defend the megalithic corporation and take a word not allowed on other paying users' experiences.

What if that time was the only free time in the week that someone had to use MSFS? Shouldn't we hold a business accountable for not delivering the service paid for? It's the second time there's been an outage in just a few weeks.

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer having all of a program's data installed locally, rather than accessing The Cloud. Then again, to be fair to Microsoft, I don't have a 2 PB disk drive to hold all of MSFS' data...

The outage yesterday was a lot bigger than MSFS - Azure itself and everything connected to it was seemingly having problems for a while

There are more pressing issues in life also when MSFS is working perfectly. And yet we spend some of our precious time pretending to be the captain of an airliner full of people.

If you work all day (sometimes nights) and finally have an hour to do something that you like, and you find that you can't because it is not available, that's not nice. Because AFTER you are done with the more pressing issues, you would like some relaxing time with your hobby.

That's all.

Well, I agree but you might as well give up gaming now if you don’t like it....  All cloud server based, online streaming gaming, is the future and unfortunately here to stay and as long as dvd drive-less consoles are manufactured it’s not going to revert!

So the best advice you have is "if you don't like it give up gaming"?

Online gaming is the future? Ok, give us some service level assurance, which means: no more than 0.1% time down, or you start paying back the customers.

Big companies are not always right.

They aren’t but you really have no choice!  Big companies are already doing it and when you buy their software you agree to it whether you like it or not!  Severs aren’t bullet proof and will go down from time to time.  You can complain about it and I agree it totally stinks but there’s nothing that can be done.  Unless you can successfully sue Microsoft for an occasional sever being down.

But we HAVE choice: we are not a bunch of 12 years old simulated soccer addicts: as you said, we have more pressing issues in our everyday life. MSFS is a test: we trusted Microsoft (I bought the expensive version), but if this server outage thing happens too often, if certain bugs are not resolved, if the recurring crippling update issue is not put under control, we will simply stop trusting Microsoft and this business model. And writing it in a public forum is the best way to let them know that our patient is not infinite.

That's why it is important that we still have X-Plane and P3D. Especially X-Plane, which works with Linux and OSX.
