Is MSFS Awesome?

"Super" is the most over-used word at the moment. It's a pandemic. "I am super stoked to tell you . . .", "I am super excited about this new makeup. . .", "It's just a super cool little app for organising your bins. . ."

Arggggghhhhhhhhhh!

Thats not even half as irritating as the meaningless non-word 'momentarily'.   My toes curl when I hear it!

Is it 'like literally super awesome, like literally'?   :senyum: - (Note, this emoji is a placeholder for one that is vomiting - I couldn't find one - literally!)

Anyway, my view is that it isn't awesome, not yet, but it could be if Asobo stop making errors with the updates.

I can wait a long time for missing content that they promise, but while they break and degrade things I cannot class it as awesome.  It is a good flight sim that needs some work to get it there.

I really hope it will be awesome some time soon, as I have invested about £1000 in it up to now, so I need it to be awesome.

My hopes hinge on DX12, not just because of that specific upgrade, but hopefully they can then concentrate on improvements and performance enhancements after that is done.

I hope to be coming back here in 6 to 8 months time to ask the same question as the OP but with a much more positive response.  It can definitely happen if Asobo get their act together. (like, I mean, literally man!)

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

The "glass half empty" kind of folks are never going to be happy, always waiting for their flight simulator to reach some state of perfection and nirvana, which will never come, so they keep waiting and waiting....growing frustrated...venting their frustration by starting the 4000000th thread about how this that and the third doesn't work or doesn't live up to their expecation. In addition, they often use hyperbolic language that would suggest we are talking about the construction of a new class of nuclear submarine.

In contrast, the "glass half full" kind of folks are enjoying what is there, noting the deficiencies, bugs and problems. They understand that no simulator has ever been bug and problem free, especially after being on the market for only 7 months. They give postive and encouraging feedback through various channels (discord, msfs forums, twitter, etc.), instead of stewing in the Avsim filter bubble.

Sorry, JMHO.

Lazyness, decline of the education system or demagoguery

This is exactly what I was talking about and I fully agree with you, it looks like we have a similar expatriate background and English was at all times the language used in all my assignments in ten countries, this was the heritage of English colonialism in most cases.

However, Hollywood and the "cult" of the four-letter word repeated ceaselessly ad nauseam in 95% of recently released films, the cow-boy pant that two third of the humanity is wearing, the mere fact that in a country like mine that thrived with four languages for generations is now using English for advertising in all regions (that's too difficult - note that I did not use the trendy "complicated" - to translate one add in four languages), lead to believe that worldwide languages are bound to become poorer and poorer.

Including English.

It’s a legitimate English word found in every standard dictionary. But I agree it is often misused.

Totally with you on that one. It's as though the world has forgotten that the word 'very' exists!

Add to that, the complete misuse of 'mega'. It seems to have come from motorsport, where laps are "mega", corners are "mega", races are "mega" and overtakes are "mega".🤬

It's a prefix meaning one million or large, it's not an adjective to be used in isolation!🙄

That could literally be true!😁 And it's "mega, awesome and cool - remember, 'mega' is apparently a word on its own now.😉

Absolutely disgusting. Or the use of „elbow“ as a verb. Ridiculous. Language is going to the dogs. Oh wait, that was Shakespeare 😜. Sorry, couldn‘t resist.

"Super" I thought was hyped years ago. Like the -ish suffix about 20 years ago or like "wicked" not so far in the past. 🙂

I envy the French. A beautiful language no one has yet usurped. I cannot imagine French being subjected to gender neutral pronouns or indeed anything gender neutral at all!😀 Vive la France!

Actually, if you ever have the chance to read a chat of french gamers, you will be super-surprised how many english words they use, while being convinced that they are talking the purest french. Wicked! 🙂

In my opinion English (american and british) is much more alive and interesting than french or german.

Well, as I cannot at the present do it for real I am flying virtually to LFAT for lunch. And what a lunch it will be!😀

The French must at all costs resist the Americanisation of their language.

The French newspapers, TV radios etc  are invaded by the poor English of the media people and some politicians. Shops take English name to look "modern" etc. It is an abomination of biblical proportion. They barely speak English but peppered what they say with English words.

French has always borrowed words from English  as English has borrowed words from the French. This is not what I mean.

As for the gender obnoxious stupidity so trendy in the US, we have that too, a variant called "inclusive spelling" (orthographe inclusive).

@Dominique_K I heard someone once saying* something like this about "inclusion spelling": "l’écriture inclusive c'est pour les con.nes" 😂

About English words invasion, at the time I was living in France I was uncomfortable about the use of the "digitale" word, which to me is always sounding like something related to the fingers (les empreintes digitales) and not to "electronic", for which the correct word would be "numérique" instead.

@jarmstro Quebec is indeed fighting much more than France in preserving the language. It is amazing how there are actually very good French words for most modern technologies or memes. A few examples: courriel (email), pourriel (spam), divulgacher (spoiler).
