It's not really apples to apples, as I can find 1080p monitor sharper than the 1080p monitor I use. Yeah, I completely agree with that. The good news is, that reference-grade 1080 monitor you talked about is putting the same strain on your system resources as the cheap no-name 1080 monitor you picked up at the computer rummage sale at the state fairgrounds. You actually touched on a good point - there is a solid case to be made that a high-quality 1080 monitor will look better than a junk 4k monitor. I'd use a projector myself if there were anywhere in my house to put one. But I'd have to put blackout curtains up in the only room large enough to make it work, and then my wife would get annoyed that I took over the living room with another stupid pretend flying thing. 😉 Edited April 29, 20215 yr by eslader Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
April 29, 20215 yr I can't tell one resolution from another. Black and white shows and movies look fine to me and I have to take off my glasses to read. I see color but definatley not Hi Def. Doesn't take a lot to please these aging boomer eyes. Edited April 29, 20215 yr by Gary1124
April 29, 20215 yr I actually downgraded my monitor from a 28" 4k (3840x2160) to a 32" 2k (2560x1440) last November. At a 28" viewing distance from the monitor I can't say I see much difference in MSFS but I do like the curved 32" better. On a side note, I am running MSFS with all the sliders to the right with 200 LOD @ 2560x1440 with no issues that my 69 year old eyes can see, at least. I did a flight from KSEA to KSFO yesterday with no stutters so can't complain. PC is a 5800x with 32gb ran and a 6800XT. Did you just buy the PC with the video card, or were you able to snag a video card somehow? AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram
April 29, 20215 yr Bit the bullet and got it from Ebay. I have my old Vega64 on there now and it is at $600.00 bid with still 2 days left. I paid $389.00 for it new. That will take some of the "bite" out of what the 6800XT cost me. LOL, the GPU shortage has reached insane levels. I just have never seen anything like this. I remember on Ebay some guy trying to sell a picture of his video card for $50 (not the video card, just a picture, was a joke but still funny). OF course those guys trying to sell just the box for $100, they were always around, I find those guys annoying. Edited April 29, 20215 yr by Alpine Scenery AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram
April 29, 20215 yr In my quest to find the 6800XT I saw a 6800XT Black "Box" that had multiple bids and was at $900.00, while clearly stating that it did NOT contain a graphics card. People are just dumb. I cleaned out my computer closet and sold 2x X470 motherboards, my 2700x cpu, an R270x video card, multiple sticks of DDR3 and DDR4, and my old XboxoneX. It is going to end up where latest upgrade is only going to cost me around $300.00 in the end. If I get around to posting my CH Yoke, pedals, and Throttle Quad, that will come down some more. April 29, 20215 yr Major distros are starting to get them out to us on allocation. Regular pricing, but limits on quantity. Finally. Maybe a sign of normalcy returning

Originally I thought to keep it for 3-4 months only, just till the new cards became widely available, and users shared their first experience in MSFS... The rest is history... Or is there another way to get around the current hardware limitations? If you check out Digital Foundry's Flight Simulator 2020: The Best Settings For Next-Gen Visuals + Best Performance video then you can see you can get great performance for a minor loss is visual fidelity. I like the sliders giving you a preference to how the sim looks, some people can focus the graphical quality in areas that they prefer - this is good. Running everything on max sure it's not possible today unless you run a lower resolution but it doesn't need to be an issue and I suspect DX12 will improve matters as well. You can get great performance in this sim across a variety of PC's so it's not a big deal. Edited April 29, 20215 yr by dtrjones
