Agreed.  Jorg has done an excellent job in reaching out to the community.  In all the Twitch Q&As, you can see he is reading through the Twitch chat, to see the feedback from the community.

I'll bet that Jorg is trolling around in here also.  Would luv to know his handle. 😀

cheers

Yes, I agree that Asobo took on a Herculean task in creating an almost totally new flight simulator, and they certainly did a really remarkable job.  But on August 18, 2020, they should have included the tag line:  "Wait for it"...

No way dude!  I'm having my fun as we speak.

Agreed this sim is amazing and is the future for sure!  Currently at FL300 from LXGB to LIML in the CRJ......the sun is setting I'm at cruise - what a sight to behold!  The future is bright particularly when PMDG, A2A and (hopefully) Majestic come on board!

I thought this was a pretty good video. He is a commercial Pilot. I don't agree with him on everything, but I think he made some good points.

Not to beat a dead horse but sim platform its superior in terms of flight dynamic as it compares with real life. Why? Because no sane  CFI ever should send student to learn how to fly airplane in the flight sim. Because no CFI I;'m aware of will sign off student for a solo because student has numerous hours in very realistic sim until student exhibit his stick and rudder skills in real airplane! So in this sense all sims that one can buy off the shelf are games marketed as sim. But yes you can use game simulator for training. And yes something is better in XP11, something is better in DCS, and something is better MSFS! All sims can  be used as supplemental platform for navigation, learning essential GPS function, flight planning and so on! So they are all really on equal terms!

There were some rough growing pains as I think Asobo figured out a workflow that worked for them and probably got some rude awakenings as to the demands of the community and the things they did and didn't understand about flight simming at launch (as a studio that - let us not forget - had never made one before), but they seem to be getting better and better at learning and adjusting.

Some people were very vocally and understandably frustrated at times - but I'm equally happy to see how much more positive and hopeful people seem more recently.  The direct collaboration and even hiring of outfits like Working Title were really smart I think - both in bringing on some really credible people to work on the project, but also to get people to work on the aspects of the sim that Asobo themselves might not have the in-house expertise to do as well or give as much attention (ie. the Garmins).

Still lots of work to do over the next months and years, but it has felt the past couple of months like we are making good forward progress, instead of the one step forward two steps back of some earlier months.

I really like the Asobo chaps.  They seem enthusiastic and passionate about what they are making, and I liked when Jorg took a moment during the last Q&A to say how gratified they were that people were being positive about the work they were doing.  You could tell it meant a lot to him - especially after he probably read some not-so-nice commentary and feedback on the job he and they were doing at times.

Onward and upward.

Yup, absolutely agree.  I like this humble aspect from Asobo.  Asobo was humble enough to realize that Working Title are better at modifying the G1000 & G3000 systems than Asobo was.  So like any smart developer: "if you can't beat em, then join em."  And that's what Asobo did - they got Working Title to join them.  That was such a great move by Asobo.

Meh I don't see why Asobo would need to swallow pride when hiring Working Title.

I am sure they would much rather spend their time building the platform/world which gives EVERYONE a better experience instead of  spending a huge amount of resources on a very specific area (like the Garmin autopilot).

It is not only Asobo's decision, I am pretty sure it is driven by Jörg as well

Yup.  It was a good decision to hire Working Title, whoever made it.

I agree with the first half. This was absolutely a collaboration borne out of mutual admiration (with nobody needing to swallow any pride), and all the credit in the world to Jorg for making everything happen. But, on the latter half, I think you may misunderstand the goal here. If the perception you're getting is that we're stuck in a single Garmin vertical tweaking a bunch of stuff that doesn't help anyone, then we clearly haven't communicated nearly well enough.

Doing the G1000 NXi project helps everyone, because we aren't just going to be fixing just the G1000 navigation, our goal is to fix every avionics' navigation. The flight plan system and vectorization we're developing will be a help to everyone, from a simple 430 equipped GA single all the way up to FBW's A320NX. And we know that, because we're talking to other third parties. The whole idea is to both use the Garmin as a great testbed for new techniques, technologies, and frameworks, and then give that knowledge and framework away to everyone else, so that they can all benefit. And, eventually, down the road, with enough bashing on it and seeing where the rough edges are of the API, that system will become the sim default system, and on top of that, a framework that leads developers into what I like to call "the pit of success" where the right patterns for highly performing glass cockpits are guided by the framework itself.

You know those annoyances on basically every plane right now? No DME arcs? No procedure turns? No holds? No missed approaches? Direct to sending you in wacky directions? Random USR waypoints? Inability to alter approaches? No RF legs? Picture a world where none of those problems exist, for anyone. That's where this whole thing is headed.

This is how I see things ok..

Many have come to try to jump on the chest and revitalize flight simming including Microsoft themselves but only Asobo was successful

1. MS Flight - Good for what it was. Casuals focused and trying to force the Dovetail games method of walled garden development..  Rejected despite being good for what it was

2. P3D - While advancing ESP beyond what many though it was possible. It was still FSX with tons of service packs in many ways.

3. X-Plane - Has come a long way but in many ways has stayed exactly the same. Not moving forward, not moving backwards but treading water

4. Dovetail Games Flight Sim World - Straight into the toilet

5. Dovetail games milking FSX further with Steam Edition. While fixing some nagging issues.. Did little to nothing to advance flight simming at all.

6. Honorable mentions included. We know who they are but none really moved the needle. The closest DCS

7. Asobo. They speak for themselves. They've literally done what no one has been able to since 2006. Blow up the flight simming world and do it convincingly and trust.

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

Given their development history I’m frankly astonished with what Asobo have achieved with MSFS. I doubt any of the founders thought they’d be doing a flight sim when they started the company.

Not many dev outfits could adapt like they have (yes, of course with some missteps).
