June 4, 20215 yr The advantage of these new cards are mainly at 4k resolution (or close to 4k). When I upgraded from the 1080ti to 3090 I was impressed at the performance gain in MSFS. P3DV5 was less obviously. But I was able to not worry about vram, kick AA up high, not worry about Dynamic Lighting decreasing performance. But I don't see much benefit if operating at 1080 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
June 4, 20215 yr Considering the scalped prices are already wreaking havoc with the 3080Ti, your better off splurging an extra few 100 for a 3090. I agree, but even so at 12Gb that is a 50% increase over my 2070 Super's 8Gb, so would be very happy to have the 3080Ti. Since I vsync to 30Hz at 1440p I'm pretty sure this would keep me from needing to stop the sim in midflight in order to change Volumetric Clouds from Ultra to High, and one or two other GPU intensive sliders. But frankly, often I'm fine w/ clouds at Ultra it just depends on the density and type of clouds. IOW, it's quite rare I see even my 8Gb get maxed. This is the benefit of 30Hz vsync at 1440P. I tried to get one at BestBuy but 5:55am was a bit late as there were are least a hundred people already in line. June 5, 20214 yr 12Gb VRAM is most likely enough at 4K most of the time. VR ... that may well be another matter.

Earlier on, the 90 was easier to get, because people thought it was a comparatively bad value. They were wrong.

Will it benefit to have the extra 2GB that the ti offers, especially when DX12 comes? Lee I almost waited for the 3080ti as I always manage to get a card and then the ti version comes out. But, I'm glad that I didn't in this case. For the slight performance increase and the small amount extra of VRAM in the ti, I'm happy with the 3080. We'll see what the 4000 series has to offer. It would be a real bad value for me at 1440p--the top 12Gb wouldn't see an electron I'm pretty sure.
