Or, Holger Sandmann who was a main architect of the former Landclass-based ORBX Regions? I guess there's still a kind of waiting period where developers watch how Asobo's World Updates are progressing and where the most profitable niches will be for third party developers to place their products. It simply wouldn't make sense for developers to bring out a detailed scenery just to have Asobo essentially make their work obsolete like they did with a few of the city sceneries so far. Personally, I'm hoping for a return of the regional scenery approach that OrbX started out with Holger Sandmann, once things have stabilized a little. Even once Asobo have gone over a region in a World Update there's still so many small details missing where developers could jump in. I'd love to see proper MSFS versions of things like the Tongass Fjords scenery or the old PNW regions from OrbX, adding all those cabins, seaplane docks and improving on the default quality of the smaller airports there. Maybe we'll see a renewed interest in these kinds of projects once bush flying really takes off with the Xbox release and the added floatplanes, skis and proper visual effects of those.
June 29, 20214 yr Author I forgot to mention PHNL and PANC. Very surprised nothing has come out for these yet especially since Aerosoft has done the latter in older sims. June 29, 20214 yr Maybe one day MSFS will have some credible airliners to fly into some of these places some are complaining about not having. Other than FBW (still WIP) and CRJ every other airliner is useless. CJ4 and the DC-6 I can fly in all the good regional airports that are available already. Edited June 29, 20214 yr by jbdbow1970

But, of course, it is a BIG airport, with an insane number of buildings other than the main terminal, and it's being made completely from scratch so yes, it's taking the time it needs. It is a lot of work, because we decided to redo all modeling, texturing and animation from scratch, to match and in some cases surpass the quality of default aircraft, which are all 1st class, from a purely visual point of view. Perhaps they’re waiting for a WU to cover it, but would love their Coff’s Harbour and Cessnock, for old times’ sake. They ported EGKA and it's awful, would rather they worked from scratch with MSF or at least spend the time to upgrade them properly before release. June 29, 20214 yr About the changing of guards at Orbx, I am not sure it is related to MFS. Jarrad and Ed seem to be in a vague management position at Orbx, Misha, Alex were students and are now adults with a real job, maybe a family, some others are maybe weary of making sceneries. This is a tedious job exciting at first but I can understand you get tired of it after a few years. Holger Sandman did the Orbx NZ MFS mesh but he was mostly the expert of GIS data integration in the FSX/P3D engine, not very useful in MFS. Also the last fat LC region was, long ago, SoCal if I remember well. The Maritimes announced two years ago never came to fruition as Venema rather pushed a PR line of products for XP then ported to P3D, which seems dormant now. June 29, 20214 yr Because the freeware community is now dominating the market share, producing quality airports that are usually almost as good as payware. For example, Gatwick by mkvy over at flightsim.to. Also, the custom airports offered by the Asobo team are pretty good, and it is going to cover most of the major airports as the WU rolls in over time.
June 29, 20214 yr IMHO MSFS looks so real I just don’t see much need for add on scenery. As stated above even the stock airports are acceptable I don’t see me going to the expense and storage of a bunch of sceneries. I scoffed at the insinuation MSFS might put several types of developers on the skids but I see what they meant after getting MSFS. Study level planes and maybe a good live weather engine is the only need I see. Vic green
