July 14, 20214 yr ...well, one has already been released actually. The excellent bush C152 mod by SJFLY2, has now had a few more tweaks, and on top of this, now has a tail-dragger variant. Yes, a C152 tail-dragger! Not sure if Bagolu (who does the excellent C172 mods, C172 amphibian etc.) has helped, but both of these guys are a credit to the community in any case. https://flightsim.to/file/12264/w-i-p-cessna-152-backcountry-s-t-o-l-mod Features: - - 5 extra degrees of flaps for a total of 35 degrees. - 150 horsepower engine to take off shorter! - Better and stronger brakes. - Removed Co-pilot to save weight. - Simulated Horton STOL Chamber Cuffs which lower the stall speed greatly allowing you to save more runway! - Other Various revamps to make the aircraft more STOL capable and ready to fly in the bush Variants: - Normal 152 variant (just with the engine / aerodynamic mods). - Big wheel variant with, you guessed it - Big wheels. - Taildragger (Nobody ever liked nose draggers anyway ;) And I am also excited about the next release of the superb C152 community mod by Joshua Pope-Lewis (JPL). This will be released on the 27th alongside the SU5, with a hint that it contains new functionality to be released with SU5, as Josh is saying it is completely incompatible with the current public version of the sim - blimey! With this and the sim update coming on the same day, I won't be able to sleep the night before! From Josh -> So, obviously I don’t want to give too much away - The run-down of what’s already known! - Working shaded sun-visors - Weight based Cargo Options - Completely reworked lighting system - Flight Model overhaul - Opening Doors/Windows - New sounds to accompany the new animations But off the top of my head there is much more we’ve done! Oh, not forgetting the OAT Gauge that’s actually the right way around after my unfortunate mistake in the last release  People have also requested “Persistence” between games, I’ve scheduled this for the release, currently on my priority list as it’s not as simple as I thought, but it will be ready! Upon release, I shall release a video explaining all the changes, quirks etc. There will also be a mini-series on how to deal with a few very minor incompatibility issues with existing community liveries (most are absolutely fine), which is a super simple copy and paste fix! I am excited! I really wish I could share some images/videos etc with you, sorry about that! < You can keep an eye out for news of this upcoming mod here... https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/msfs-c152-community-v0-9-9-updated-15-05-2021/309284/582 So, brilliant stuff. July 14, 20214 yr Reminds me of back with FS 95 and 98 before payware there was some great mods by Lou Betti and Paul Golding and others. My first payware was an MD82 panel for FS 98 I believe. Back then I hung around flightsim.com and everyday after work would scan new files to download. This was before Avsim even had a forum they only had a news frontpage. Everything goes in a cycle it seems. Sean Green
July 14, 20214 yr Excellent news. I still get a lot of pleasure out of flying the C152. Michael M System: AMD 9950X3D II Asus X670E Hero MB II 64GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 II RTX4090 II 2TB NVMe Samsung 980 Pro II EKWB CR360 AIO II Dell Alienware - AW3821DW 3840 X 1600 G-Sync Ultimate
July 15, 20214 yr The JPL C-152 is one of my favorites! Maybe part of it is the nostalgia since I did my PP training in 152's back in the 90's. It flies much like I remember and is my go-to aircraft if I just want to go for a casual flight or look at some scenery. Can highly recommend for anyone that hasn't tried it! July 15, 20214 yr I have no idea how they did it, but the taildragger version actually performs like a true taildragger.. July 15, 20214 yr For anyone that might question the authenticity of a C-152 tail dragger..you are correct that Cessna never manufactured one. HOWEVER, there is an STC (Suplimental Type Certificate) modification, called the Texas Tail Dragger, that actually is an approved and certified modification to convert the C-152 into a tail dragger. (I admit...I am apparently too dang brain dead to get the image to link as a URL, so just try to click the link) https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=iIqpNcrP&id=89D71CC18E86CA1CE441D1DD15E868EAB9FCC6C0&thid=OIP.iIqpNcrPe0rg2Cr2OPx_kwHaE8&mediaurl=https://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd195/edbellamy/IMG_14162.jpg&cdnurl=https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.888aa935cacf7b4ae0d82af638fc7f93?rik=wMb8uepo6BXd0Q&pid=ImgRaw&exph=683&expw=1024&q=c-152+texas+tail+dragger&simid=608024273810966103&form=IRPRST&ck=B62DA6FE7D56A7002349501B85035276&selectedindex=9&adlt=demote&shtp=GetUrl&shid=3adb0288-eede-4f09-9260-462049db8ebe&shtk=VGhlIENlc3NuYSAxNTAvMTUyIFRleGFzIFRhaWxkcmFnZ2VyIC0gUFBSdU5lIEZvcnVtcw%3D%3D&shdk=Rm91bmQgb24gQmluZyBmcm9tIHd3dy5wcHJ1bmUub3Jn&shhk=3JoEVa7ypvvyITORHyFCQ0D%2FtvLW6zErcj1gKb5s1qY%3D&shth=OIP.iIqpNcrPe0rg2Cr2OPx_kwHaE8 Kerry W. Maybe Greg, but I hope it doesn't stop the older 3PD aircraft being used until they can be updated, or we will have a lot of unhappy customers, and third party developers needing to revisit them all to iron them out! 😀 I think it is more a case of being the other way around, that JPL has built in new SU5 tech or functions that would not work and maybe crash in the current release. As a side note, I saw it somewhere that some of the new particle effects might need to be added to the older 3PD aircraft configs manually, and that they won't just appear by default. That will take some work, but it shouldn't be anything critical that would stop them being used. Edited July 15, 20214 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). July 18, 20214 yr Author A small update from JPL showing what we can expect from the JPL C152 mod on the 27th. For those of you that don't know, this is a continuation of the C152X or community mod that was started in the early days of MSFS; it has developed beyond all belief! This C152 model he shows here has wheel spats - that was a shock to me! I don't think he listed that before. He seems to forget to list a lot of his modifications, as he does so many. PS. For those who have not been following this project closely, the opening doors might be a surprise, but did you also notice the new sun visors? I can't wait to try this little plane! I heard it was a complete pain to break down the original Asobo 3D model and animate the doors. Rather than breaking the model down in blender (or whatever they use) it looks like a completely different model now - like a new build entirely. Although the TBM improvement mod had animated doors, the door animations were already done by Asobo apparently, but just not working until the guy activated them in his mod. This looks a really nice model anyway! It would be great if the spats are optional, to please everyone. I didn't like them too much on the C172, but now there is a 'pants-off' mod for that by Bagolu on flightsim.to Edited July 18, 20214 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). July 18, 20214 yr I've been using this mod since almost the very beginning. Makes flying the 152 even more fun. Can't wait for the opening doors. It's been a pain having to climb through the window to get in the cockpit. Hehehe...
