What's to look forward to in P3D?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for PBR remakes of the major US Hubs KLAX and KJFK. Both have been done by FSDT for FS2004, then updated for FSX/P3D. In the meantime, they look very obsolete.

I would love that for sure.  DFW/EWR also.  But I don't think we are going to get that.

It's possible now to get good FPS in the V5 as the (powerful) GPU is providing some relief for the CPU. Look at the performance at FSDT KORD, SW EGLL and AS EDDF - it's stunning comparing with V4

I meant that I don’t think any developers are going to make a major new scenery.  Even though I wish they would

You, guys, sound like P3D is already dead 🙂 FlyTampa is getting new EHAM ready. A-A is bringing new VTBS soon. Simzilla is still "let-me-fly-over-my-house" sim.

I don’t think it’s dead. I just think the bulk of the 3rd party developers are dead. Maybe not dead. But moved on. Flytampa is a bad example. Recently killing off Atlanta.

I spend most of my time in P3d still.

Imaginesim KATL shines in the V5 in both appearance and performance. Also, we don't need developers putting previous resources at the same buckets (airports). hence FT decision to abandon KATL is totally reasonable, even beneficial for the community.

I was looking forward to JF742, but now I'm on felis' one for XP11

I'm surprised but unfotunately Felis's rendition of B742 flight deck looks quite ugly to me, it's a shame. so I look forward to JF742.

Looking forward to ORBX openLC Asia, phase 1, which covers India, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

Unfortunately, it is already a few months behind schedule with no news or updates on progress or release time frame.

Depends on what is important to you.  While the imaginesim KATL is pretty good, it's far below the quality of a modern flytampa airport.  Nothing like their Las Vegas or Boston one.  ATL is also the busiest airport here in the USA.  Judging by VATSIM traffic out of atlanta, I'm sure many people would have appreciated it.  To be honest I think we have most of the airports covered already in p3d.  I differ in my opinion from you.  I think exactly what we need is certain ones to be replaced with higher quality versions.  Even though I know that won't happen.  FlyTampa abandoning atlanta I don't believe will cause them to divert resources to p3d.  They are abandoning to divert resources to msfs.  Other than the two updated they are working on, and probably almost finished.  If you have imaginesim atl, open it up and look at the terminal building detail.  As you look closer, you will start to see it's not that detailed.

I would be happy if Orbx started to add to their freeware airport file again. Some of the small and mid-size fields are really nice and very accurate. At least the Pennsylvania ones look like their counter parts. That would mean a lot to me and others who's largest plane they fly is a King Air or a Premeir or Citation.

Dave, there was an Orbx post from July from one of the main moderators that confirmed development is continuing, but you're right, no new screenshots and no timeframe mentioned.

Don’t give up,on P3D too soo, chaps.

if you look at the long-term trend for MSFS on steam, user count is steadily decreasing. It’s not a particularly popular game,, and the fact that it exists doesn’t automatically mean p3d is finished.

if you want more P3d add-ons, make sure that you support the devs that support our platform.

It’s still the best sim for complex aircraft, if that’s what you like flying then here is the place to be!

"There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."

I think what is to look forward to is quite simple. The sim and it;s user interface will get better and better - that is good GUI's and smooth operation that delivers a simulated flight environment capable of being used for aircrew and other crew training at a desktop OR as part of a full motion simulator training sim - thats the plan that is why LM are doing it! I also expect it to be around in 5 years from now and well integrated into modern hardware and software it is already the foundation of a lot of airforce pilot training around the world. That's what you get!

I think we are overlooking the fact that they have taken a very good simulator (the FSX ESP engine) that was designed for a 32 bit environment and then rebuilt it to suit 64 bit computing while at the same time integrating the most start of the art graphical tools and software platforms possible (DX12, EA, NVIDIA wave motion and True Sky). Textures and graphics are in catch up mode, such as effects files and PBR texturing. They are using up to date satellite derived mesh data and have updated most if not all of the worlds airports. There are still issues with API's and few other sim connect issues but they are not game busters merely teething issues!

We tend to forget that the fact it is even available to us, the sim community, is well quite remarkable as well. If you want a commercially produced game simulator then go and use MSFS. LM are not producing a game but have made a long term investment to produce a state of the art program to teach and train. Yes it may not have some of the fancy graphical touches that MSFS has but in many places and situations it does exactly the same but differently thats all. IF your using a simulator to train you have a different perspective, you want the ability to recreate over and over again complex scenarios and flight problems either operational or navigational, then you want to do it again and then again. You want to do it stop, analyse then continue or through in a whole bunch of variables for the learning experience That is what lies underneath it and that is what it does!. I have enough study level or completely synthesised aircraft models to use it like that and I am very grateful that because of its heritage, a lot of older models (aircraft types) are capable of being incorporated or can be! For somebody who now sims for a past time not as a training pilot I am continually impressed. However if I am using it professionally then I only use one aircraft type, over and over again. Quite frankly the graphics are brilliant, the sim operation trouble free (for me) and I give it a workout some days with different scenario development. If I had one of LM's full motion sims in their spherical rooms it would be amazing but I don't only a simple HD Monitor but I know it works.

That's exactly what I think.
