U5 actually really rocks. For me at least.

U5 actually really rocks. For me at least.

Here is my cockpit. I get 30 45 fps Ultra and Hight settings with 4 screens, one running air manager with a touch screen and Knobster for controls.

The complex instruments shot is the DC6 it runs perfectly and all the gauges work, not a huge frame rate improvement on the DC6 if any, but it runs and PMDG has an update coming to fix frame rate.

The other screen shots are of Cubs the X and the new Husky. They are perfect in U5 and the graphics on my 5 year old system works great.

Things are getting really good now after everyone settles down and does some flying instead of complaining.

The scenery looks fantastic and I am not seeing any popins. This is flying in New England. The Cape and NH. The DC6 was in Europe. The Turbo Arrow was in Africa...

Man I remember when Tokyo used to knock my FPS on High down to 20fps. Now I'm getting 40 FPS on ultra with photogrammetry (with a landmark pack thrown in there).

Yep. The only reason I'm getting only 35 here is because I have the render scale cranked up to a hundred and fifty.

Hmmm...  What does that do for you in a short brief?

I believe that TAA has various "levels" and that to gain some speed, Asobo may have dropped TAA down a level. Cranking up the render scale acts a bit like supersampling and returns the missing AA. At a cost.

In truth, I'm probably overdoing it, because I can, and I'm experimenting.

I agree with you. I think it looks and flies better than any other sim I have ever flown, and I've been here sine the Bruce Artwick days with monochrome stick graphics.

I get embarrassed reading some of the posts on here lately.

To Asobo and MS... Keep up the good work. Some people just won't be happy no matter what you do, and a lot of us will. Us happy people rarely post. I'd be thrilled with updates every month for the next 10 years. Keep them coming! I hate stagnation.

I kind of agree actually. I has to reinstall Windows because my hard drive failed, and then I decided to wait to install MSFS until SU5 dropped. When it did I installed from scratch and my sim works really well. Honestly the difference with previous versions is astounding. It loads really quick, the FPS is pretty amazing even at places like NYC and LA, which historically on predecessors of MSFS were always a hairy situation. Of course, I'm not running the highest graphics settings, but it works very well for me. I'm curious what will happen once more intricate aircraft simulations arrive, and when Asobo finally introduced AI that's worth something. Then things may plummet, performance-wise...

The only downside for me is I had to swap back to a HDR capable screen and take LOD up to 300.  ( I prefer not to use HDR as it sometimes messes with other stuff I do, but in a pinch I can use it)

If anything the HDR resolution in game is better than ever, post SU5 the sim in HDR looks amazing.  With HDR and LOD at 300 or 400 even the tree issues are resolved.

However on my 32" SDR screen - not so much. In fact without tweaking Nvidia settings SDR for me is pretty awful, playable if your doing IFR at FL350 and looking at the glass or scud running super low with minimal clouds but that is about it.

Hence -  SU5 is a real mixed bag some people get amazing results whilst for other people it is unplayable.  What does not help of course is the people with a good result smugly telling the ones with problems they are imagining it and the sim is "better than ever" 😄

Hopefully the next patch will resolve the issues and we will get a consistently good result for everyone.

I love the new update. My sim works flawlessly and now I run ultra with excellent framerates, and my gaming laptop is very good but by no means top of the line. No more stutters at all.

I just bought TrackIR and I have no idea what all the complaining is about. I don't notice any popping. Is it only over urban areas or something?? Only happens to some people, but not others??

I do sympathize with the people having issues because I've had issues in the past (numerous CTDs mostly with P3D) so I know what it's like, but not everyone hates SU5. For me the sim is running better than ever (knock on wood).

I certainly acknowledge there are some issues, but it sure do look purdy most of the time.. and runs like a dream.  Looks pretty good for 1080p mid range machine I reckon.

+1 as I said in the threat I posted yesterday. I almost have “survivors” guilt about not having issues.

I tried to cause crashes tonight and couldn’t. Performance and visuals were fantastic even around crowded airspace like JFK and Long Island.

Tried group flying with my son. No issue there either. Really weird.

This is pretty often the case with me as well. Lots of people with problems but usually not me. My working theory is that my machine must be  fairly close to the average developer test machines at any given time.

Or I'm just lucky.

Using a 1080p monitor / settings on High, and found that I had to move up Terrain LOD to 200 from 100 to regain the same level of terrain detail that I had pre-SU5.
