This is the most ironically hilarious thing to me

It's un-ironically hilarious as well. I mean, it's in the name. Flight Simulator. It isn't called Microsoft Action-Packed Happy Fun Game of Flying.

It's like someone playing Civilization and whining that they played through a whole game and never got Racoon Mario once.

Given the recent review of the A-10 Warthog I just watched, I'm thinking perhaps we need to make clearer definitions of "what is a flight simulator".  Because as it sits my view would be that MSFS is a game level simulator and XP, P3D are study level simulators.

Personally I'm in the hobby to do study level of simulation, not gaming.

After reading the fselite review of Xbox version of MSFS I couldn't help but notice it was still more ga ga goo goo over "I can't believe they were able to do this" vs listing pros and cons which is what I expect of a review.

Great idea. The next step would be to restrict AVSIM ("AVSIM is a free service to the flight simulation community", according to the frontpage) to study-level simulators only.

MSFS kids like me can talk about their games elsewhere.

If the XBOX version is DX12 as Asobo said it was required for XBOX that`s more than the PC version.

yet the reviews on the Windows game store are only 2 1/2 stars.  I guess thats for the PC version though?

I used to occasionally write stuff for the Metro when I worked for the GMG, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that it's it's a garbage rag suitable only for lining the bottom of budgie cages, which is precisely why they give it away free on buses, because nobody in their right mind would actually buy it. And I'd only use it to line a budgie cage if there was literally no alternative.

Good Idea, keep the kids in their own room! Why didn't I think of that?

It’s also not called “Wannabe airline captain FMC simulator” or meant for those who can only obsess about the clouds, ground textures, and LOD numbers in the config file.

It’s for those who want to play a computer game that gives them some components of the simulation of flight. That includes those who don’t need to have the gates at an airport retract or the plane be pushed back by a tractor. They just want to fly.

So I’d submit that those who play the “happy fun game of flying” are closer to the enjoyment of flying than those who obsess over procedures in a 747 cockpit.

But that’s just my opinion, and you know what they say about them. And I know what the enjoyment of flying feels like. I wonder how many others who use FS actually do.

Oh come on now. 😁😁😁😁

I had every one of the X-Plane versions through 10, and trying to “fly” in it was like an arcade game. And the world you flew in was bare and lacking and resemblance to the real world. And I don’t remember the panels and controls being all that realistic either.

P3D may have enabled more accurate panels and control simulation, but it was still the same old FSX flight model and scenery engine from 2005.

And just curious, have you ever been PIC of a real aircraft?

With 6.5 million estimated Xbox X sold already (and probably even more XBox S).

If a quarter of those try MSFS and of those that try it around a third stick around, that is half a million new flight simmers already.

If even a fraction of those half a million players buy addons from the marketplace that is going to be a massive boon for companies like Carenado.

what happens if we're all sharing the same server responsible for spewing out our graphics etc?

Could be worse, if it was on Switch you would look down and see little Mario Carts everywhere beetling along the road.
