Sure.  Why not.   Let's debate Oxygen.   In my opinion,   Oxygen is every bit as important as VOIP communications while "I" fly.   😁 But then,  that's just me.   I like to fly alone,  but I prefer to fly with a group.

Seems like a  lot of people are turning up their nose at that particular prospect.   EDIT: Please understand I'm not referring to any specific individuals. It's not my intention to lodge any form of insult.

Look guys,  I know some people don't want to use discord.  I can understand why.   But,  I'm going to post another community bush flight for this Friday night and everyone of you is invited to attend if so inclined.

The group I fly with uses discord for VOIP and as a place to post weekly announcements and flight plans,  but it's not required.  I'll post the flight plan on my Google drive and link it.    You don't have to join discord if you don't want to.   All you really have to do, if so inclined,  is show up on the Southeast Asia server at the correct time,  at the correct airport.

The only reason I'm posting them,   is because I value camaraderie and the spirit of aviation.  I have no personal stakes in it,  my attitude is simple "The more, the merrier".     This week we will be flying in Australia,  which should be great,  because a half dozen of the guys live there.  Should be a good tour.

The only way I want to spend time on my computer is to fly MSFS and spend a bit of time during a long haul here in AVSIM.  Yes I'm old fashioned and don't need any more opinions than that. lol

Discord has a great desktop/mobile app along with CPU resource efficient voice comms.

Enjoy being hellbent on ancient Teamspeak/Ventrillo Servers, AOL Instant Messenger and VBulletin message boards to fly with other simmers.🤣

If I'm not mistaken this thread is in the totally wrong forum.  I'm thinking that Hanger Chat would be the perfect place for it.

Perhaps we should also request that a dedicated Discord discussion forum is created to further the rather pointless but nevertheless entertaining discussion what what we do and do not like.
Then those who have nothing to say can post into that forum as well, instead of just glancing at it and moving on.

Ahh what the hey.    Figure I might as well jump on the bandwagon.  Last time I had to sign up for discord was a few years back when I bought a Rex product for FSX and I had to sign up for discord.  Not really a fan for discord either. Guess I am just burned out with sign up here, here and here. And navigating that place was a trip.  My 2 cents.

Discord is great !!  - at least the ones I have joined so far - the members are very civil and great people ..

Discord is a fantastic service. I use it for BMS, DCS, Pilotedge etc. You get to talk directly to very knowledgeable people, like devs, SMEs etc. A few weeks ago I had a long conversation with a guy on the Falcon Lounge discord that was an active duty F16 pilot. On Pilotedge I regularly speak with the controller's about the exams and they've coached me through lots of challenging tasks on the network.

 

If you can spend a little time learning the UI it's genuinely a great way to interact with the community - especially the more niche servers like PE, Vatsim etc.

Yea, its extremely easy to use, full of puerile memes so  those lacking communication skills can get a point across and has a cute little Wumpus who hasn't anyone to play with welcoming you in.
