Do you guys think my 4790K and GTX 1080ti could run a 1440p monitor?

Ryan,

I am running an ASUS PG279Q 1440p, and as your can see your gpu is far superior to mine...you'll have no problem at all with your 1080ti!

If you've got the budget for it, buy a full Gsync monitor.

Ryan, I am not familiar with your CPU, but the 1080 Ti can handle it no problem.

My system (9700K @ 4.9 + 1080 Ti) is driving 2 x 1440p GSync monitors (1 is 34 inch 3440x1440 ultrawide 144 Hz, the other is 27 inch 2560x1440 165 Hz 16:9). I use the 34 inch for MSFS, and the 27 inch for other apps (LittleNavMap, etc...). The 10801 Ti usually uses between 6-9 GB of its VRAM depending on where I fly in MSFS.

Strange!  Is this 1440 with a high scaling factor?

I run 4k native 100% scaling, and the difference between this and experimenting with 1440 on my 4k monitor is like night and day.  The instruments are just so much sharper and easy to read in 4k, and it is easier to pick out distant airfields.

It must be due to differences in personal perception, as I do sit close to my monitor.

I am considering buying a new monitor when the cards will be cheaper so I find your experience interesting  as you don't see the difference.

A 32 in.  at 2560*1440 gives you 91 ppi which is generally considered on the low side by reviewers

A 28 in at 3840×2160 gives you 157 ppi which high, 72.5% sharper.

Pixels Per Inch PPI Calculator (calculatorsoup.com)

Hello @Dominique_K  Regarding PPI you are right. More important is for what you use your monitor mainly.

For gaming - take what you want in size / resolution / FPS. G-Sync or Adaptive Sync are very nice to have.  About 90 ppi are still ok for that. Nethertheless - You have to devide between MSFS eg. and EgoShooter eg. Best FPS and more important - best response time for the latter.

Curved monitors - IMHO for work with Windows are not my taste , due to distortion in proportion.

My rig:

- 31" 4K / 144 Hz / HD10 / 16:9 monitor / G-Sync for Windows and applications, For exemple open 2 A4 documents in original size side by side (I need that a lot). Windows internal "Scaled" to 150% - otherwise symbols, txt eg. are to small. (My age and my eyes). Monitor has about 140 ppi....

- 48" 4K / 120 Hz / HD10 TV (LG OLED) with G-Sync for MSFS / YT / Movies / TV eg. IMHO - the impression of MSFS on a big screen is intense, way more than on a "small" monitor.

We are talking about monitors - not about money, right?

Best regards

Detlef

Requires much more bandwidth than 2560 x 1440.

It’s still a lot easier to run than 4k

2560x1440 = ~3.6 million pixels

3440x1440 = ~4.9 million

4k = ~8.3 million

You could test it by increasing the render scaling so it gets as close as possible. Should give you a pretty good idea of actual 1440p

I gambled on the new AOC U34P2C 34" Ultrawide (there were no reviews at the time).

The gamble paid off. IPS quality screen and no more tearing with Adaptive Sync. Also has speakers, usb-c, earphone out and kvm sitch multi input.

Yeah basically a 30%  performance hit versus almost double.

It is a shame 3440x 1600 has not taken off it would have been an ideal ratio for desktop flight sims.

I went for 1440 and the screen I have is stunning over my old 1080. When a game put it on 1080 for some reason it looked terrible, imo screens down down scale well, so 1440 on a 4K screen will not look like a native 1440 screen. My old 1080 looked better than my new 1440 at that res.

The G7 is super curved but when sitting very close like I do, it’s fantastic it comes in 27 or 32. 240Hz as well.

The FPS saving is worth it. In 2-3 years I will go 48” LG OLED and 4K with a 4080…or 5080 what ever it is…

Me too (see sig) and the image is pretty but it is old and SDR and MSFS since SU5 seems to be tuned to HDR according to those who have both.

About the curved screen and ultrawide ratio, is the cockpit view not distorted at the edges in MSFS ?

No not at all, edge to edge pin sharpe and HDR 600 HDR 1000 is best. I tried HDR but really not that bothered.

The first hour I had it I could not see passed the curve top and bottom. But once I load the sim or a game, you dont see it. What I do see is a screen that's picture quality is stunning even when looked at the screen now it still blows me way. As for the curve now, lol my old 1080 I have at work and I hate the flat look lol.

I dont like and never have curved TV as your to far away it was all *Letters not allowed* but when siting as close as I do, so I get the most out of its size the curve is great as my eyes dont have to re focus at all as the screen is designed so its the same foucs distands where ever you look. My old eyes love it.

I have never seen any distortion on my 32" 2560x1440 curved screen.

I am unclear what people are talking about.  Does the game distort the image somehow for flatscreens due to the edges being further away from you, that somehow messes up curved screens?

Or am I confused and the distortion being discussed is related to the ultrawide 3440x1440 aspect ratio rather than anything to do with being curved  ?

I run a 49 ultrawide at 5120x1440 120hz and it's perfect from my perspective...  (no pun intended)

I find these do not have enough vertical screen space. Best widescreen resolution is 3840x1600 IMO.
