September 20, 20214 yr The tree distance bug really irks me. I know it's kind of banal, but it just matters. What I'm doing to cope with it is setting my Terrain LOD to 4.0 in UserCfg.opt file, as well as only flying in tropical areas where the problem seems to be far less of an issue. (It might have to do with northern and southern latitudes). I've been flying my own Caribbean tour lately, started in Miami and after several hops I just landed in Princess Juliana, Saint Martin. Very enjoyable and relaxing. September 20, 20214 yr Well, to my experience the ones making fun of the tree draw distance issue either never fly north enought to really notice it or if they do, they only fly around flat lands in bad weather, where the issue is not so prominently visible. If they would ever fly in a mountainous region with mostly forest covered slopes in winter, they would instantly stop making jokes about it. Or how the heck is it possibly that you do not feel your immersion ruined if you fly along a valley where you have blank, white slopes just 6 or 7 nm in front of you and some minutes later, when you are less than 5nm away from the exact same, blank and white slope, this slope suddenly turned dark green and into a full blown forest? Do those guys fly around blind? Or are they really so forgiving that they tell themselves: it is just a sim, it was fixed some weeks ago now it is broken again, so what, I keep enjoy flying around? I do not get it... Even more funny are those who continously try to claim that in RL, you wont see individual trees more than 5nm out. Which might be perfectly true, but as the example above shows, it is not even about seeing individual trees, but forests as a whole... September 20, 20214 yr All the best trying to find a grass airstrip with the airport marker off, with the current tree lod. I swear I had spotted the airstrip a few miles off and then as I approached it, suddenly the entire 'airstrip' got covered with trees. With the old tree lod, I would never have mistaken a forest for an airstrip. 🤦🏻 So yes, the tree lod does matter. Edited September 20, 20214 yr by saifs

I'm astounded at people who think the night lighting is normal, and how when you go up in a plane and look to the distance you just see patches of blurry yellow in real life. People's wants, needs and how they fly the sim are all different, which makes it impossible to please everyone. Some pilots will start a seven hour flight off, input the STAR before they've even taken off and then fly it as if no weather may have changed en route.. I don't even fly the FBW aicraft because the added immersion isn't worth the FPS trade off.. Yet some people would think I am a gamer, not a simmer, for ever flying a default aircraft.. It's a tough one, but the trees lines suck and the sim is looking way worse than it could do.

Either they could not quality control a paper bag or the game is deliberately nerfed to please the X box gamers. Either way I don't think we are getting anything other than short tree draw distance and a blurry sludge on the mid horizon where they end. i feel your pain when you refer to a blurry sludge, someithing i used to see. I've had very sharp ground textures for a while now to the horizon. i was forced into an MSFS install a while back, and that together with hotfix 2 (su5) has given me sharp textures as far as I can see. Actions speak louder than words, I know, and also my expectations are lower than they used to be, but as long as they say that they want to fix these things (in interviews, Q&As, dev. roadmap etc) I believe them. It might take much longer than I was hoping for and some things will probably never be to our utmost satisfaction but I don‘t think they‘re lying to us (a bit of marketing talk here and here, yes, but not deliberately lying). Rather, things turned out to be more complicated, processes aren‘t ideally coordinated, priorities are set differently etc. etc. I guess we‘ll see in 2-3 years. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

Action speaks louder than words indeed and I am afraid that what we have seen so far won't change much but at the margin. Difficult to change an organisational pattern and a business model (kill two birds with same stone, 'courir deux lièvres à la fois' would say the French)). I am like you, enjoying the sim for what it brings, it is a good game, but frustrated and sorry to see it limping like that. 1 hour ago, AnkH said: Well, to my experience the ones making fun of the tree draw distance issue either never fly north enought to really notice it or if they do, t Agreed butt the tree line is a symptom, not the illness. The OP appropriately titled his thread, about the draw distance. The low res imagery at 5 nm is everywhere I fly , trees or no tree, at any latitude . September 20, 20214 yr Since this problem did not exist in the early builds, then got nerfed, fixed and then nerfed again. Was this part of the code overwritten accidentally when other changes were being added? If the code is truly modular/object oriented a call would be made to set the draw distance, which itself is a standalone module/object/class. But if the draw distance is commingled with a bunch of other code, when people are working in this area they can accidentally hammer the draw distance. At this point i pretty much expect any part of this sim to be broken anytime we get an update. Here’s a new airplane. Now gauges stopped working on another airplane. I hope i am wrong but we’ve seen a lot of evidence that this is a real problem. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
September 20, 20214 yr As much as I love this sim, and nothing is going to keep me from using it, Asobo or Microsoft has a real issue with quality control in regards to putting out updates, whether they are the World or Service updates makes no difference. Additionally, there are simple things broken in the sim that have persisted since the alpha days and should all have been corrected by now, yet those problems remain to this day. I would be looking long and hard at reassigning some individuals were I in a position to do so. There is no way this should be allowed to keep happening, and no excuse for many of these simple "bugs" still existing in the sim, one year out from release. 🤔 Ken
September 20, 20214 yr I don't get it. I've worked in development of financial software for years. And yes we broke things and repaired them. But before the next release one of the first things we checked and tested was what we broke the previous release and made sure that didn't happen again. I think proper testing software is as hard as developing it and user testing isn't the answer to all problems. Asobo knows tree distance is an issue with users. Explaining what went wrong would create a lot of goodwill with the users. I presume. I9-14900K, Gigabyte B760 Aorus Elite AX, RTX 4080, 32 ram.1 tb nvme M.2 SSD, MSFS 2020 on 2 tb nvme m.2 SSD

September 20, 20214 yr Sick to death with this LOD. I love this sim and it just makes be so mad when they fix it and then mess it up again. Here is LOD 200/200. line is so sharpe no fade in and I just cannot un see it. Its also really un sharpe from the edge out Here is 400/400, yes its a lot better but the line again is so harsh its just kills it. Look at the hole were I dont draw over the draw line. its flat there it make its look like a cliff. And people say " O no not trees again...... Just...makes me sad....I want to enjoy it but all I see is this harsh line all around, inside the line =stunning/wonderfull, beyond that line= yuck. Just give us a tree sider and give us trees out to the green line. Does not even have to have building as the draw on them is great. 0-900 please trees only.
