What is relevant is whatever LR says, it's cool.. Whatever MS does is bad.

Especially from those guys who think sims are mutually exclusive.

XPlane 12 was just announced and XPlane 12 looks to be a huge graphics upgrade over XPlane 11.

I think certain people are a bit disappointed by the amount of improvement of XP12 after bashing MSFS for over a year. There's literally nothing it does better than MSFS except for nice trees up close.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

Yup, I agree with you on that.  The trees look better up close in XP12, but aside from that, MSFS is still graphically superior in every other area.  Still, XP 12 is starting to look like modern graphics so I'll give it that much (if MSFS gets a 100% score for graphics, I give XP12 an 80% score for graphics, whereas I would score XP11 with all the best graphics/scenery add-ons a 30% score in graphics).

Having said that, from the videos of XP12, the FPS doesn't look very good for XP12.  Austin did not talk about performance for XP12, but there were micro stutters noticeable in the videos for XP12.

LR has a lot more optimization to do to match the FPS of MSFS.  I'm not even sure if XP12 will match the FPS of MSFS in the final release, with all the graphics tuned up in XP12.  My intuition tells me XP12 will not match the FPS of MSFS in the final release of XP12, because it probably accumulated a lot of "technical debt" over the years.  But I guess we will see when XP12 is released.

I think they mentioned that. They'll likely include a beta version of replay that could be turned on or off in dev mode.

But based on what I heard at the Twitch Q&A, we're not just getting Replay, but I think we are getting a very advanced tool that their marketing team uses to make trailers for MSFS.  I hope the tool is easy to use because all I want is just the basic functionalities of replay: fast forward, rewind, pause, etc, and the ability to switch views using the drone cam.

I don't really need a super advanced tool that is complicated to use.  So I hope the tool they give us for replay is easy enough to use for the basic functionality.

unfortunately nothing on seasons, even though work on that has 'started'

I would really love to know what MS and Asobo are planning when it comes to seasons and how deep they want to take this.

I don't know how advanced it is, but they did mention the user interface was not very user friendly.

There are already replay tools out there with a lot of advanced functions (I think), but I would prefer a built in feature from Asobo.

I use the popular one from flightsim.to but it's really jerky to replay the FBW A320.  Maybe I don't have the latest version as well.

But if the replay tool is integrated into MSFS, we don't have to always get the latest version of an add-on and chances are, the replay tool built into MSFS won't be jerky when you replay it.

<sigh>

These people should play their game once in a while.

We need a simple replay function which conserves the position of flaps, spoilers, air brakes, landing gear , the "needles" on the gauges at every moment in flight  and a close replica of the weather !  Thats it !

The FSX/P3D replay was good enough except that some developers wouldn't use the whole spectrum of possibilities (eg A2A).

A2A said a couple of times that they couldn't use the landing gear/flaps positions in the replay as they were already using all variables available in the virtual cockpit. That is all I know. or at least, all I understood 😉. A2A's were the only aircraft in FSX/P3D for which filming the retraction of the gear was a PITA as you had to do it in real time not in the replay.

I just want to see my landings from the passenger view. And from runway view. Not a big ask.

I want to check my landings specially with tail-draggers (three-point) and possibly do fancy little movie as I did in P3D 😄

Seasons.

XPlane was never going to have global satellite  imagery, but everything else appears to be improved.  As a flight simmer, I am excited with the XP12 news.  Personally I don't get the attitude of using one sim and bashing the others.
