I didn't like to hear that it was early 2022!

Early 2022 is a lot closer than it seems.

Or that's how I feel when I look at our roadmap, anyway.  😂

It's not like Xplane doesn't do some things right.  I know it easy to go and point out flaws in flight simming. MSFS sure have a long list of outstanding issue to be resolved but when I look at the frequency under which Asobo deliver fixes. I am wait more optimistic about the future of MSFS than I do for Xplane 12. But hey Austin can surprised us and I would be happy if he does

Even if X-Plane 12's weather system is half as good as MSFS, the lack of streaming ortho still makes it a no-go for me. It's just something I've gotten so used to now that I could never go back (plus I used to spend countless hours downloading and processing my own ortho - then almost threw my computer out of the window when it was corrupted or looked like poop).

They were surely not too detailed on AI, which means they're not making progress, yet. Sigh.

I mentioned it in the stream, but the G3X will also get the WT treatment. So, we'll be tackling the G1000, G3000/5000, GNS430, GNS530, and G3X, on the Garmin front.

Matt, are you guys working on the flyback bug or not involved in this at all?

They said they're working on it. Jorg was going to respond to an e-mail about AI today.

Not even mentioning real weather. So many people hated Asobo using for a hybrid system for real weather (METARs around airports and a forecast system from Meteoblue for the rest) and right after Laminar announced that they are implementing the exact same method, the same people started to love the hybrid system.

For several years live FSX weather was superior to what this currently presents. I find I would be better off just using the weather preset that comes closest to what my briefing (Fltplan.com) presents.  Only I then will need to change the presets multiple times during some 2 to 3 hour GA flights.  And I am still getting a real mixed bag for winds aloft.  Trying MSFS default, Unreal Weather, and REX WF.  Still no joy!

It seems to be based on the same principle Asobo uses for their real weather - METARs are indeed the most accurate when it comes to weather, they are literally empirical observations. However they are not very dense (gaps in data can be huge both spatially and temporally) and they do not cover the entire atmosphere. Their (both Asobo and Laminar) solution is filling in the rest using forecast system.

Currently MSFS Live Weather injects r/w METAR airport wind, temperature and pressure, but not clouds precipitation or visibility, which at the moment still come from the forecast model. I am hoping that the upcoming “METAR by MeteoBlue”, will mean the missing parameters will be added to real time METAR. MeteoBlue would best know how to smoothly blend clouds and precip from current METAR with their forecast model clouds.

They've been saying this since September 2020. 🙂

I actually would prefer for them to take December and most January for SU8 and fix 80% of the bug debt if not more if they can. I'm ok getting nothing for 2 months, as long as the SU8 is solid and delivers quality bug fixes. Hopefully they have some internal resources working on these fixes already and put most of their team on these come November and whip out a big one with SU8. At least they are openly admitting now that the core sim needs a lot of work still, especially post re-factoring of the code.

Well, that was a very positive Q&A update the way I see it.

Multiple confirmed fixes for the couple of next updates.

- Traffic fixes
- Tree distance fixes
- Night lighting improved
- Terrain LOD to 400 in sim menu
- Weather will be much improved with METAR injected into the Meteoblue weather data
- DX12 by the end of the year, will be optional for the foreseeable future.
- Bigger focus on fixing bugs and improving simulator going forward
- Team working on MSFS have increased by at least 50 (people) from when the sim was launched

Thank you to Tuskin38 for continuously updating the thread.

This is exactly what should have been anticipated about now--all of it, especially the weather issues, and getting back to sim basics and bug fixes..  They're right on queue having survived the Xbox port.  It just gets better and better, truly.  I still see no mention of two chronic sources of microstutters:  the spinning logging indicator, and the ATC stuttering issue (solved by the ATC Stuttering Fix) which I'd rather see solved internally than thru a mod to be install by whomever learns about this.

Don’t pick on the stuttering ATC.  Have you not seen “The Kings Speech”!? It can take years of therapy and practice to overcome a stutter 😉

Watched the stream, as ever they talk a good talk but the proof is in the pudding. It'll be interesting to see how SU6 & 7 play out and whether they're the updates that truly stabalise the Sim, personally I'm glad to see a few VR fixes but they're still missing some glaring issues that weren't in the slide they showed.

It was interesting to hear them push Zendesk reports so much, that they do actually get them every morning and that they're not just sent to the Black Void of empty space. As much as I'm not playing this Sim to be a tester, it did encourage me to perhaps send in a ticket for certain issues that annoy me.

I am actually starting to become slightly bored with MSFS (like I did with all other sims). I hope they add some compelling features (and no I don't know what i want) but those X-Plane 12 windscreen rain effects with the wipers moving the rain was simply astonishing.
