It was a flying joke.

September 30, 20214 yr After listening to this Q&A (really enjoy them - these guys are really awesome) I am more convinced that this sim needs another year. By then most of the major issues will be vastly improved, plus we will have a lot more serious airplanes to focus on. We need to be patient for another year. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

I think it's legacy behavior from the other sims near as I can tell. My local GA field has nothing there in MSFS. A download from Flightsim.to has filled it with buildings, signs, people and cars etc. UK Central from Orbx adds hundreds of landmarks. ship addons, mesh addons are no different to buying an addon aircraft for extra detail and immersion. MSFS is superb, but even it can be im proved with addons. This SU6,7 and 8 should hopefully bring stability and foremost conviction of the community that they are on the right track. Edited September 30, 20214 yr by Drumcode Jacek G. I bought KSBA because I lived there for 8y or so and knew the airport. But for the vast majority of the rest of the planet I just couldn't tell what's accurate and what isn't and as I say the quality is astoundingly good, compared to where I came from which is P3D. Plus, I was duly miffed when Orbx KSBA did not include populating the ILS freq in the G3000's Freq Tab which is nice for autoloading an ILS freq without the need to look it up, whereas 99% of default airports all include ILS freq where they exist. I went out and immediately bought 5 airports until I learned once again the default stuff is so good there is little need for me, unless as I say I know the area well. I took my PPL exam at a small airport in Hollywood Florida, KHWO. I was really surprised that this airport was quite close to the real thing, in MSFS. Runways, taxiways, Control Tower, buildings, all looked just about the same as I remember it. Edited September 30, 20214 yr by Bobsk8

What happed in the last update was that Meteo supplemented some metars into the data delivered to MS. The intent was to smooth out between satiations. What is new is that Meteo will supply all the metars which they can better interpolate for lagging, missing, corrupted, ect metar station reports. The end result, more accurate wx simulation at the actual airport. The bummer is, as they stated, we will not get the ability to queary the sim wx for a station several hundred miles away - this is now formally a dead issue. But if the real world metar now comes closer to the sim metar, it may be ok. September 30, 20214 yr Well I've never noticed the METARs being very accurate of the sim weather, at least in the USA. We should be able to listen to the ATIS and have that match real world METARs, and have conditions in the sim match. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

We should be able to listen to the ATIS and have that match real world METARs, and have conditions in the sim match. My take on that topic is that in the short term they are going to add METAR data for SU6/7, and the next few months will be the fine tuning and re-integrating of METAR and forecast data for a more robust overall WX system. That should be really good or at least a lot better and probably even VATSIM'able in the short term. The longer term 'fixing/enhancing' actual visibility not just by 'adding' a fog area, but sounds like they are trying to make it procedural based on 'why' the visibility is reduced, like fog, haze. smoke, temp/dewpoint, etc. That would be another major leap forward for the sim, IMO. There were actually quite a bit of other major fixes for SU6 that might have flown right by people like LOD slider, night lights, ground friction, terrain, and trees (LOL), all with minimal impact. Sounds like they might have nailed this one, or at least got it to a much-much better area. The start of wake T, ground affect, P Factor, and a host of other aerodynamic improvements. I like how Seb remembered a line of code from FSX from like 5 years ago and was able to tweak it...lol. SU6 sounds like a really major quality of life update as well as a ton of other stuff that we need right now. Seasons, might be the next major thing, which I know is next year. I know a lot of people still want AI traffic fixed. Can't remember what they said about that. Multi Monitor support is on the way also. Probably forgot a ton of other stuff, but I think the sim for the rest of this year and especially the next year, is really going to take off. Jorg, Seb, and Martial (spelling?) and the team still sound really dedicated and hard core. They are delivering at a blistering speed. Edited September 30, 20214 yr by Jeff Nielsen Jeff D.
