Hey!  Would you guys please put some clothes on while you sit at your computers!  How disgusting! :ph34r:  Hey, Noel....shave once in a while! 😀

That reminds me. Over the years I've probably worked on hundreds of people's computers, and one thing that's always bugged the living heck out of me is the fact that nobody seems to sanitize their machine before handing it over to the poor Tech or repair guy.

This was made even worse by the fact that many of the machines came from my coworkers, back in the day, and my girlfriend at the time would always laugh her butt off at my anguished "Arrrggggghhggs! Followed by frustrated cussing as I bumped into yet another bunch of nude photos of my coworkers that i would now never be able to unsee.

 "Nude pics?" She would call, from whatever part of the house she was in.

 "Aiiiiigghhhhh!" I would answer.

Worried about privacy? Clean your dang machines before handing it over to the tech!

@Dominique_K, many thanks. That’s fixed it. 👍😁👏

Hmm, not for long in my case! At first it appeared to be successful but now, after returning to my device a couple of hours or so after the app was installed, I find that wretched pop-up banner has returned! So, it would appear that this Avsim contaminant has ways of circumventing Adblock Plus in Safari on my iPad. It’s as bad as ever! This despite the ON/OFF switch (ON) in Settings\Safari\Content Blockers\Adblocker Plus remaining unchanged.

Whilst we are in complaining mode, is AVSIM responsible for all the irrelevant advertising that is punctuating our forum browsing these days? If so, and this is considered necessary to bridge the shortfall in annual fundraising income from donations, then I suppose we have to accept it as being necessary as long as we wish to continue avoiding the introduction of a subscription model.

@Cruachan, no such problems here in Safari. Try rebooting the iPad. Or uninstall and reinstall the ABP app.

The app works perfectly well on my iPad and iPhone. Check inside the app that the sliders are set.

Okay, I’ve reinstalled it. It came down from the Cloud and yet the GUI was different this time around. Odd?!

Anyway, the sliders are set thus:

Block adds = ON

Exceptions -> Acceptable addsOFF

Content blockers has been set to ON automatically in my iPad’s Settings by the ABP app without any interventions on my part.

So far so good 🤓

It seems no reboot is required.

Ray, Dominique, many thanks for your helpful advice.

Yep, since my last post I can confirm that Adblock Plus (ABP) is working a treat on my iPad 😀

I am on this forum everyday on a PC using Firefox. I have never seen an ad banner on Avsim. And zero adds on Youtube since switching to Firefox.

Firefox is independent, not owned by Google, and loses no money if adds do not appear. Google Chrome is the opposite of all 3 of those things.

If i'm not on Firefox (using other devices) there are adds all over Youtube and I hate the experience.

I am on Firefox and both the banner ads at side and the bottom.

The solution to this problem is not as simple as installing Firefox. I have been using Firefox for years, but I still see the ad banner at the bottom of the page.

I don't see any banners at all, never have on Avsim. I've been here over 10 years. No adds of any kind.

Firefox and AddBlockPlus.

But then I have exactly nineteen active Add-On's added to Firefox, perhaps one of them is the reason instead of AddBlockPlus.

For instance I can't live on internet without the 'Legibility' add-on added to Firefox. Which makes dark websites (like Steam) or small text websites instantly readable by just raking a slider back and forth until the current site is easy to read.

You did not specify that you also had AddBlockPlus installed. I do not have any ad blockers of any kind installed. The point I and some others are trying to make is that those ads at the bottom of the page have only recently appeared.
