MSFS: I sort of solved my heat issues...

ABS is the only thing I've had other than HAF cases. Gotta love them HAF's

I have a Phanteks Eclipse 600 S with two 140mm Noctua fans in front and one 140mm Noctua in back, and it runs cool and very quiet.

I basically have one large intake fan in the front/bottom, one large intake fan on the side, then two exhaust fans on the top (water cooler exhaust) and one exhaust fan at the back. Another thing I can try is to add two intake fans in the front behind the drive mesh, since I really have no need for those.

Maybe you have too many fans, that is not good either, I would try to turn off the fan on the side and try and see if it get better, I think two in front are a better solution than have a fan on the side.

Having the water cooler radiator on top with fans as an exhaust, while running a very hot GPU exhausting into the case, will mean the rad will heat soak the hot air from inside your case (resulting in a hotter CPU). If your case supports it, try repositioning your rad at the front of the case so that the fans are intaking cool air over the rad - this should have an immediate impact on your CPU temperatures.

Here's a video I found which explains the issue Does Radiator Placement Matter? Hint: YES - YouTube

AMD does run cooler IMO.  Less is more, cpu and gpu overclocking is not needed with MSFS.

Also I selected a low watt GPU, 3060TI. mostly due to my solar power system but low heat makes sense.

BTW my NZXT case is open with a 280 Hybrid CPU cooler.

But the fan on the side blows right across the GPu and the CPU. If I wasn't so stingy with my time I would strip the motherboard out of My crummy ABS provided case and put it in my HAF case, the HAF case is running the 7700k cpu (yes, I know Im not Ixoye, but we both like and use HAF cases)

ok, it's off the wall but you could have a warped CPU cover. If you've replaced the TP several times and are  using a water cooler, I am ASSSUMING you know how to properly apply TP. Also try monitoring the cooler fan and pump speed to be sure they are operating correctly within range. I would remove the CPU and CAREFULLY lap the back. I expect you'll see very quickly that the CPU case is not flat.

If your CPU case was warped, all the paste in the world won't help.

80C is safe for that cpu BUT if you're getting that running MSFS with a watercooler - something is not right. I'd suspect the thermal paste or the cooler. Running msfs with all the bells and whistles on, you should be around 70C.

I realize I am running an i7 10700 Comet Lake but running MSFS at true 4K with mostly ultra settings I still see mostly lower than 50°C.  The rest of my system specs are below in my message footer, including my cooler and case.  In all honesty during flight my CPU temp rarely climbs higher than what it reaches with MSFS only on the World screen.  My 3070 ti GPU stays at just under 74°C.  The 1070 ti I previously had in this system ran at about 84°C with MSFS.

Well CPU temp always depends on ambient temp. This is why most cooler testing is about + ambient temp reference. Airflow in a case matters a whole lot as well.  If you have a thermal issue , it  has nothing to do with MSFS. This is a hardware physical issue.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, guys. I just got done doing a 3 hour flight. I underclocked my CPU to 4.5 and my temps never rose above 69C. GPU was maxed at 70C. Super smooth pumping out 55-60 FPS the entire time. I had heavy clouds running the CRJ, so I think I am good. I can't really tell any difference between 4.5 and 4.8 GHz, which is the highest my system will run using stock BIOS settings. So other than being able to say my system runs at 5 GHz I really don't see a problem with the way it is running right now. Maybe at some point I will order a new cooler, and I will take a look at the video showing the water cooler mounted in a different location. Maybe there is something there.

Thanks again guys.

Wasn't sure so I checked...you can "delid" the 10850K it seems.   Not suggesting you'd actually do it (very risky and voids warranty) one way or the other, but I wonder if the compound between the chip and IHS is bad....contributing to the high temps?   I think your chip should not have to be hamstringed underclocking just to control temps "normally".

And I agree with @vgbaron that it may be a warped cpu cover (and/or cooler face).  I had and old Titan I was replacing, and in the mean time...it was always running hot.  took it apart, blew out the dust from the fins and stuff...and lapped (sanded) the cooler's contact face to a mirror finish (Didnt want to risk the GPU so left it alone)....vastly reduced temps!

Good point Steve. I agree to a point. I could send the CPU to a shop that does delidding and binning.  Looks like about $70.
