November 18, 20214 yr Get ready for a few, "I'm coming back to P3D threads" after today's GOTY release....

But hopefully it will be worth a while 😉 We have survived the LONG, LONG waiting game that took place between FSX and P3D I am sure we'll survive this too. And hey even if no updates, we have another two big players (XPlane, MSFS) in the game, so already more options than in the FSX era 😆 Balint Szarka CPU Intel i9 9900K OC'd to 5Ghz RAM 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000MHz (2 x 16GB) GPU 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2070 SUPER

November 19, 20214 yr Well, I reinstalled P3D 5.2 HF3 this week to beta test a product and since I had never used it with my new rig which has an RTX 3070 Ti, I was really impressed by the huge performance I now get :-) Also reinstalled the FSLabs A320 / 19, and the A2A P-40... Enjoying P3D ;-) !!! Well, I put in 6 hours and GOTY is no longer 'bleating'. So back in the fold of my Three Amigo's... Had to fine tune the 'bleating' thing...lol. Ok, back to the P3D channel...
November 20, 20214 yr I can’t believe we’re 19 months into the release of v5 and we’re only on the second point release (5.2). The updates seem to be coming slower than v3 and v4.

My major gripe with 5.2 is the greatly reduced number of parking positions at default airports. Whilst they have updated the airports themselves the lack of parking means those who use AIG only see a fraction of the number of Ai. I’ve resorted to copying all my v3 AFX files to v5. This has restored the parking positions but at some airports a few Ai are parked inside a building. I can live with that. This problem was reported to them soon after v5 was released and whilst there was an early response there’s been nothing for over a year. There is also the problem of default airport buildings not appearing until scenery complexity is set to Very Dense. In v3 and v4 they appeared at Sparse. This has never been acknowledged which I consider unacceptable. Ray (Cheshire, England). November 20, 20214 yr I'm still on the optimistic side yet and think there might be a bigger thing is coming along in the near future. Who knows? Aside from that, I want to bring another aspect into this. LM is a big player in the defence industry and sometimes I think about they might be shifting resources (workforce, money) into another division, so also P3D would be affected by this, maybe for a longer period of time. brgds, Ron Flying P3Dv5 with PMDG 737 NGXu, 747v3, 777; QW 787; Orbx; Chaseplane, AI Lights Reborn Pro, Lots of AI, AIController Visit www.airlinesim.aero

I am not an academic licensee but paid good money for a professional version to integrate it with and use with real world flight training (Covid and the industry crash busted all that but that is another story). I have EA and True Sky operating nicely now with a few tweaks from some others involved in this with LM (thanks to them not LM). I think the sim is very good indeed and I have no significant issues with it at all except - they cannot fix SIM DIRECTOR it is a schemozzle to put it kindly. They fixed it with the update at 5.2 and it ran beautifully provided you only wanted to access default objects airports scenes etc, as soon as you ask it to load anything else (ORBX for example) it does not crash it just hangs the sim (I killed it with hot keys) at the 12 hour mark where it sat there demanding 99.99% of my CPU capacity (and that takes some doing on my PC). I posted on the Forum, no response, I emailed the head of the team - no response. In fact I should have know better in that regard. Once upon a time not so long ago I was asked to join the LM team with the instroduction of the sim into a military customers new training school I surrendered after attempting 4 times to provide them with the relevant docs etc via their employee portal and even in contact with them could not find anybody to sort that out or who could help. I thought do I want to work for them? No way and proceeded no further. So LM's communcations issues and customer service problems extend beyond P3D. But hey at least it works - the future we shall see? Who knows what is going on there these days - I do know there is a major US miltary training contract up for grabs so mabye they are focused on that - then again anybody with any military exeperience also knows that the change is a very slow, dogged and frustrating process. Been like that for a long long time. A chap called Harris who ran Bomber Command in WW2 recounts fights with heads of joint service command staff in WW2 who wanted to know why they could possible want those new fangled american artificial horizons (baubles they were called) fitted in their aeroplanes. And there are a lot of ex military folk at LM! Edited November 20, 20214 yr by coastaldriver

Ray, I think, truly that M.S. has taken some wind out of their sails...and I fear that they might just let the consumer side of P3D now slide into oblivion. We all know that it is their military applications (Professional license) that are generating their interest and cash flow. Not us... So...I'm not scratching the side of my head in the lack of communication and actual updating. v5.2 might just be the swan song, 'see ya'...on the consumer end. Might be.

The updates seem to be coming slower than v3 and v4. Indeed, 19 months was the time period between the release of v3 in October 2015 and v4 in May 2017, with four point updates and three hotfixes in-between. It feels like P3D had its heydays during v3 and v4. Now, not only are updates coming slower, but they add fewer major features, and no one has an idea what they are currently working on. I think that adding satellite image streaming (like in the other simulator) is the only way LM will be able to attract new and old customers in future versions. I just don't see many simmers willing to shell out another $200 for v6 Professional version that will bring marginal improvements.
