The sim to end sim addons.

Featured Replies

Remember just over a year ago, we had a sim to end sim addons. (dreams).

One year in, before I launch the sim I launch:-

1.) FSUIPC

2.) Sim shakers sound module

3.) spad.next

4.) AIG traffic injector.
5.) navigraph sim charts with sim link.
6.) Air manager.
7.) FS realistic.

8.) pilot2atc.

I wonder what else to come.

EDIT:-

Just to clarify (as it seems that some People in these forums like to assume things just to start arguments), I am not complaining, nor moaning, nor unhappy. Nor am I bashing Asobo. I hope that is clear. Anymore nasty comments, please don’t bother, just disappear down a black hole instead, it would be much preferable.

I see this type of thread with regular intervals and it's always the same conclusion; Few people ever saw anyone actually say that. Seems some people have misinterpreted the wish for a sim that was broadly acceptable out of the box, with no need for a million addons to just get in a somewhat respectable state to meaning it would never need any addons ever. None of what you list is even remotely essential either.

Is it anything like LSMFT?

Maybe not the sim to end all addons, but I certainly feel the need for far fewer addons than I did in P3D.  Don’t need ORBX regions, cloud texture replacements, vector data, ground textures, shader mods etc etc.  If i put on my optimist hat we could be a few sim updates away from not needing a weather addon.  The default airports are also generally acceptable enough that I’ll fly into them and not feel the need to buy an addon airport every time I want to fly somewhere new.

Huh. I thought it was the Sim to End World Hunger.  And it didn't do that, so it sucks and I'm going back to Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer.

That’s a matter of opinion, they’re essential to some, just because they aren’t to you…..

The good thing is, it will give Asobo/MS some direction to set priority's, hopefully.

Thinking of AIG and a broken base AI system.

I use none of those things, so I guess this is your problem.

Well anything that’s related to hardware is tough to have believed you wouldn’t need that add on. The FSUIPC and Spad.Next are very much a personal choice based on hardware purchases.

I do share the frustration with ATC and AI traffic. I was hopeful those would be top notch out of the box within the first year, but they are a bit disappointing. I just go without and have plenty of fun, but they do seem to need major addons.

Although the sim isn’t maintenance free it’s at least 10% of what 2017 P3D was. The way addons went gorilla on your system files was painful back in the day. At least now the community folder seems more manageable.

We just need more integration and aggregation of a market place to smooth things out. The bouncing between simmarket, flightsim.to, Orbx, Aerosoft, etc to make sure everything is updated is a bit tedious.  Especially if you are a feast or famine simmer like me.

I think you’ve misinterpreted my thread. It was intended to be humorous.
I’m not sure why it means all of a sudden it’s ok for people to comment with down right nasty comments. There is no need for it, they’re toxic. It leads me to believe that the people who wrote them are just as toxic.

I sort of get what your saying Ian. We were always going to need some addons, but we were hoping to need less of them, which in general that's what we've got, but Asobo still have a lot of work to do yet, but we all know it's a long term project for them and Microsoft.

Yeah, it's actually been the opposite since day 1, "I can't wait for xyz add-on"

Fill in the xyz with weather, traffic, aircraft not to mention the #1 ask has been for a better SDK for more add-on access.  It's actually been about add-ons since day 1.

Have a Wonderful Day

Last I'll say on the matter, but if you try for a joke, and a whole bunch of people tell you it wasn't funny, maybe the problem isn't with the bunch of people who didn't think it was funny...

Or maybe it is… or maybe they just interpret things how they see fit.

Yes, exactly. Thanks for a common sense, nice reply.

Ian in 2020 didn't you say we could finally be rid of terrain morphing, texture popping, and scenery add-ons?

Is this an exercise in self-catharsis?  (I chuckle)  😁
