What are you getting yourself this holiday season?

Bored at work, so here I am starting up a forum topic to kill time, lol!

I bought myself a VR headset so I can some serious bush flying in MSFS! (Oculus Rift S...if it pans out for me, I'll upgrade to a nicer VR set later).

Might also upgrade my Navigraph subscription to ultimate instead of FMS Data.

Probably the best gift one could get...and it's the kind that keeps on giving too!

I can relate to that one Doug!

Leaving Monday to see Mom for the first time in 2 years and probably and then probably an exorbitant amount of gifts for the dogs who will inevitably fight over the same toy despite them each having their own.

I already got myself and Alder Lake system with a 3080ti so my gifts came early this year.

I'm pretty satisfied with everything I already have.  I don't want anything that will make my flight simulator any more complicated than it already is for me.

My annual Christmas gift from my wife is a Fruit of the Month subscription from Harry and David.  Been getting that for a half dozen years now.  I'll get her the usual 200 dollar gift card for Target.  She'll surprise me with something for my birthday, usually a sweater or something like that.  My Tilley Hat is about worn out so maybe I'll ask her to replace it.

I'll be looking forward to the calls from my kids and from my granddaughter.

I guess that all sounds a little simple, but when you are already satisfied with what you already have you really don't want much more.

My father once told me happiness is being satisfied with what you already have rather than lusting for something you don't have.  How Un-American is that?

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I’ve just managed to secure a part time contract that will give me 12 days off in a row every month with 19 days off every 3rd month starting early next year.

So I’m gifting myself good heath and happiness, hopefully, and the gift of actually watching  my kids grow up, and the seasons change again which is something I did for the first time in almost 30 years while I was furloughed. That was something completely different from working flat out flying around the world away from home constantly as a long haul pilot where occasionally you’d actually have more than a couple of days at home  at suddenly notice the season had changed.

On a more materialistic note and related to a certain obligation to keep the flying skills up to reasonable level while only being part time, and anticipating a large if not total reduction of disposable income I’ve decided now is the time to upgrade my 4 year old flight sim rig.

A custom build i9-12900k and RTX3090 system will be arriving soon.

So much for the Rift S. Tested it today and discovered a glaring smudge on the lens, causing a blurry spot to appear literally in front of my eyes, like I have cataracts. Pretty disappointed in the seller, immediately requested a refund.

Guess I'll just go ahead and upgrade my Navigraph subscription, lol! (Maybe a nice boning knife I've had my eye on too).

But what if the dogs open their presents early?

I’m only half you age, maybe even less than half, but kind of in the same boat. There’s not a lot of material things I wish for any longer. When I was young I used to be into expense cars and the latest and greatest electronic things, but those interests have waned over time. Especially the car thing when I finally realized how much of a money pit they are and how much you lose in devaluation, even after one year.

Not to say that I don’t want something every now and then, but it’s not like it was when I was a late teen into my 20’s. My wife says that I’m now really hard to buy for since I’ve accumulated so many things that the only things left are really expensive. 😂😂

My adage is similar to yours, but I always say it’s better to want what you have than have what you want.

I'm thinking I will get myself either a full frontal lobotomy or a full bottle in front of me.  Either way, I won't care for a while. 😁

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

This *might* be salvageable, but only if I am unable to return it and get a refund. If I'm stuck with it, I'll buy a tube of polywatch and see if I can't buff those scratches out in the lens.

I'm a little miffed at the guy for not disclosing that (he claims he didn't see the damage when he packed it up for shipping). It explains why he was so willing to drop the price, that should've been a red flag for me. In any case, I called BS on the guy and he's involving the website's support to try and resolve the matter. Burden's on the seller. I don't know what's the big deal anyway, he refunds the money and I return it back to him, simple as that. He can re-list it to try and sell it again, but I'll strongly suggest to him that he disclose the scratches on the lens, that's kind of a big deal.

Have a bad day at the office Stans?  Or do you just don't care anymore?
