Reno Air Race Expansion? Is it worth it?

Do any of you use TIR on the Reno planes? If so, does it work OR how do I enable it? Tried the T-6 and after disabling all the 'learner' stuff I ended up with my head in a vice! Went back to a PC-6 and TIR worked. *sigh*

Ok all. just a little glitch. All good now. Thanks

Hi, any more comments on how the Reno planes fly outside of the race? Are they somewhat realistic outside the race?

i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

I got Reno and tried a time trial and the the Pitts and L39 outside the race.

First off, I would have no clue as to how they perform versus the manual.  They are fun though.

As far as the races, I can certainly see people getting in to these things.  I had to exit the trials because my hand started hurting...rofl!!  I can see this spawning a whole new area of simming for people.  Exactly what the franchise needs, IMO.  Plus all the side benefits they learned from it and will be able to enhance the other areas of the sim (some started already).

The planes are absolutely gorgeous and the Reno airport and surrounding scenery are stunning and butter smooth.  Even when turning sharp and fast there were no stutters.  This is a sim first, BTW.  Having the sim keep up with the aircraft ahs always been an issue in the past.

Side note, as far as SU7 goes.  Looks like the world map is broke again.  Can't zoom in to the parking spots.  It looks like the vis and haze as far as visuals goes is a big success, but as others have said, I think it reads 10SM as unlimited or uses 9999 (Europe) which causes un-realistic vis.  This they should be able to easily fix though.

I'm glad I got Reno.  Even though I probably won't actively race, it's fun to mess around with.  I also have PacSim Sim KRNO to boot, so just having Stead to the North will be great while on approach.

Got the mega pack of Reno planes - I like it, all of the planes have character.

So one of my main ways of using MSFS is for long distance AP legs while im working on my other screen. This means I like using autopilot on almost everything.

If you are curious there are some L39's that have functional Autopilot in the package. Blue Ice, Drop Bear and Red Thunder. I think this is kinda cool because its a small jet with familiar General aviation AP, which I believe is pretty uncommon in the type.

The T-6s and the Pitts all have no autopilot. One P-51 has inop autopilot (Lady B), kinda disappointed in that, but its probably because it looks like a AP module thats never been in sim yet and I can imagine the old birds are generally not set up for it.

Just in case anyone is looking to buy onesie twosies of the planes and AP matters to you.

Just got the Full Collection, which makes the selection UI messed up, maybe a sub selection for these is more decent. Looking good and they have different cookpit but i think quite similar in functionally. Haven't tried them yet cause i wanna sweep them away.🤢

update: As it turns out, i love them but need to learn each class for a while, i think it could be more enjoyable with a set of VR which i haven't got one. No need to buy them all IMO.

Cheers guys.

Sorry for my pathetic English , thank you.😅

Bought the $ight version $29,90, which comes  with the p51 and L-39 and T-6 variants, one of each.

Haven't tried the Reno Races yet, but I did test the P51....

Just like the Turbo Porter it totally lacks a worth of aerodynamic effects due to engine opperation, starting with the usual torque absence above Vs1...

It's something that makes MFS no different from FSX / P3D, and some authors like A2A can tame a bit, doing their "Magic", but just like the roll rate throttling that was imposed since fs9, and ASOBO fixed in SU6, we will have to wait for the announced "real time prop effects" - whatever that means - to probably start enjoying realistic prop effects in MFS ...

So is this the first P-51 for MSFS?  Aeroplane Heaven were supposed to release a P-51 for MSFS but I went to their webpage and I don't think it's released yet.

She says every single plane in the set apparently has a slightly different cockpit, because were based on inspecting the RL versions.

You can stick your toe in the water to test the temperature by purchasing the "Reno Air Race Expansion Pack" for $19.99.  You get 4 planes, one in each category.  You also get the KRTS Reno Stead airport all decked out on race day.  Lots of animations, visuals and sounds with this and full access to participating in the Reno Races.

You fire up the Reno Air Races under the Activities banner.  I think this is the same for the FULL package ($56) as the ($19).  The difference is you only have a choice of 1 plane in each category rather than 10 in the full package.  Otherwise, you can compete in Multiplayer or individually in time trials - either online or offline.

If you take a liking to a certain model you can buy just that class of 10 for $29.99 or even just one of any of the racing planes for $9.99.  Of course, the best deal is the FULL Collection of $56.99.

You can fly the pylon race course, which is high speed, white knuckle, heart pounding knap of the earth flying or fly anyplace on Earth as with all the other planes in the sim.

I highly recommend you get one of these packages.  You can get a ton of enjoyment just learning about the Reno Races and how you can participate in MSFS for twenty bucks, plus you get to keep the 4 planes and expanded airport.

Ray

Jump over to flightsim.to and download the freeware KRTS scenery pack. He has included a pdf with all the pylon race courses. Nice.

Anyone know if you can use any aircraft is your library for this.  I would love to get the new Gee Bee into the act here!

no you cannot !!

But the way arround works, meaning that all of the aircraft that come with the version of RaR you buy, or any additional aircraft you by for the tittle will en up in your hangar.

Regretably they're all very poorly modelled IMO 😕

I would never had bought RaR if I knew how it actually worked... It's pointless to play air races when the aircraft are so arcadish....

I actually found Reno great fun when it first came out and got quite competitive once I worked out how to fly most efficiently round the course! But there hardly seems to be anyone in the lobbies to fly against any more so I think for most it was a bit of fun for a couple of weeks and then that was it.

Yep, fun for a couple of weeks but....

A pity as the aircraft are modelled beautifully but have absolutely no depth. The only skill involved is learning the quickest way around the course and....that’s it 😟
