Scenery Gateway has Started

Featured Replies

Dev work on the Scenery Gateway has started. Those excellent freeware addons may be included automatically in updates. The Gateway is scheduled to go live sometime next year.

An unfortunate concept, best left where it is.

Nope, universal.

That’s too bad. I really want to control everything that goes in my sim. There is a ton of amazing freeware scenery that’s being made by passionate, hardworking folks in the freeware community but unfortunately there is a lot of really really bad freeware too.

But even the "bad" freeware, whatever that is, will be better than a default airport with no buildings.

I've downloaded hundreds of freeware addons and only discarded a handful, most of them are great.  The sceneries and airports are excellent, though I must admit that some of the addon aircraft can be a bit iffy.

Just needs careful curating.

It is a concept started with another sim where the developers decided to crowdsource the population of their default bare airport scenery with “Lego block” assets. It worked fairly well in that case mostly because something is better than nothing…most of the time. Some airports are really well done, others not so much, but it opens the door for people to easily correct default inaccuracies where they exist.
