This advice has come up before and I believe was discredited at that time.  I just now personally performed this test with the results below based on my PC;

NORMAL

  • 2:30 min.  from starting the msfs.exe to to main flight selection menu screen
  • 1:00 min. from selecting airport starting gate to in cockpit with FLY button displayed
  • 3:30 min. total time

then ...

  • 1:00 min. from selecting DATA OFF as suggested above to CONTINUE for test restart below

MODIFIED PER THIS THREAD

  • 2:00 min.  from starting the msfs.exe to to main flight selection menu screen
  • 1:15 min. from selecting airport starting gate to in cockpit with FLY button displayed
  • 1:00 min. from selecting DATA ON for game play to CONTINUE
  • 4:14 min. total time

Personal Conclusion:

  • This suggested modification is useless at best and actually adds to the overall loading time and thus I will not be utilizing it.

Maybe the result is different depending on settings and PC config... for your 6600K the limiting factor may be different than the online activity, it's not normal to waste 1 minute after setting data back on. My PC resumes that setting instantly.

I have an i5 6600 and this hack works beautifully for me, shaving off about 1 minute from the usual starting time.
Thank you!

4min startup to 2min here, on older i4770k PC

Thank you!

Are you sure that you are toggling photogrammetry?  This alone will take no less then 20 seconds.

When you disable DATA you disable everything with that single switch: PG, texture streaming, MP, live traffic, live weather...

I don't know why it takes so long for you to resume DATA ON but I would say that it's an issue with your PC / installation because other people are not reporting it.

I think your PC is just slow.

I think I will continue starting up the sim, then going to make a coffee or read avsim com whilst waiting for the sim to load.  My startup procedure is long enough anyway:

1.  Turn off miner.

2.  Set GPU clock for simming (different to mining).

3.  Add or remove anything needed from community folder.

4. Load Google Maps replacement.

5. Load Littlenavmap.

6. Load Flight Simulator then wait (and wait).

7. Select aircraft, weather, time of day, route, etc.

8. Click fly then wait again.

Data on/odd is nearly immediately for me, too.

The gain by this method seems to depend on the numer of addons loaded. According to my observation, it mostly shortens the first half of the loading process with checking for updates and stuff. If you have the bare sim or only few addons (active) this is a quite high percentage. If you load many addons you don't gain much. I observed this yesterday with my France addon sceneries (105) active.

Kind regards, Michael

You'd think it wouldn't be too hard for a clever programmer to create a mod that does all this turning on and off automatically...? Hint hint! 😉 Isn't there a cfg somewhere in which this setting is stored? In that case a simple bat file might do the trick. Biggest problem for me (at my age) with all this is that I will surely forget to turn it off before quitting the sim.  😉

If he's a very clever programmer he might be able to take care even of this?

Thanks again, i always keep the sim in the background rather than quit to the desktop once i start it, usually until i'm leaving home or power off the computer. Now though it's more decent and efficient so i can just quit it.

I think it's worth an offer from Asobo to the genius who discovered this method.

Now I understand where the number of concurrent users comes from.🤣

I think there are 2 types of computer users. One type loads everything on their merry way, email, website(s), YouTube and chat-room.

Then there are those who open one thing, close that when finished, then go to next destination.

It makes you wonder about seeing posts, such as, "Hey, about every 3 minutes or so my mouse cursor jumps to the right, about 3 inches." Or, "I don't understand why my Keyboard locks up occasionally?, I have to reboot to clear it".

Just an observance.

And if you live where it gets cold, you get the added benefit of CPU heating for your room. 😀

Thank you for posting this, it is very interesting.  I tested with an empty community folder and only msfs running, yet it was still over a minute to both turn this setting off or turning it back on with my system.

Turning data on or off takes 30sec+ for me with  just half a dozen airports in the community folder.  I have an i7-10700.  As they say: YMMV.

My loading time is reduced from 3:40 to 2:25.  Not bad!
