I'm enjoying the the sim vicariously by watching all the the latest YouTubes.  Sure don't look broke to me but amazing instead.

Cheers

from observing the feedback on the flightsimulator forum. For most of the participiants the named and introduced bugs have gone (like low clouds, et al.)

The problems I am taking about is the possibility of having to reinstall the entire game when the beta testing is over.

I have asked how you opt in to the Beta - but I'm still unclear on the process

can you explain pls - step by step would be great 🙂

Steam user also btw

Right click on MSFS then properties.  Click on BETAS then select the beta from the dropdown - no need for access code.  Same to revert back to original - just choose NONE from the dropdown.

You do not need to spend anytime giving feedback if you do not want to, just fly 🙂

That is not what a good beta tester does.

Maybe. They told this can happen when your install is inside 😄

You said you didn't want to Beta test so just fly.  I have only seen one serious issue and that turned out to be a graphics driver problem.

There are no bugs stopping me from enjoying the sim right now. Sure there are issues but they are not game breaking for me. And even if they were, i got plenty of other things i can do. So, perhaps take advantage of the holidays as well, get in touch with friends, family, be safe, and then you'll come back to a more fixed version of MSFS.

Regardless of the issues on the last SU, devs deserve their off time as well as any other worker.

The Apocalypse....(nothing actually, just stay in the Beta until the hotfix goes live, and the game will update only the files that have changed from the Beta)

Well, in fairness, that’s not what they said. There’s a caveat that you may have to do a full reinstall of the entire sim.

There’s no specific process to follow that guarantees your installation will simply be updated without the need to reinstall. Just a murky allusion to the file path and default location being less likely to need a full reinstallation.

Personally, my issues aren’t bad enough to justify tinkering with beta code.

Well there are many issues posted on  the FS forum, so you must be missing alot in your testing. https://forums.flightsimulator.com/c/decupdateflight/pre-release-testing-discussion/301

While I am perplexed by their lack of confidence (can't they just test the fixed themselves?)

Agree with your post, but picked up on this bit about confidence. Yes, they can test in-house (and will, to an extent). Except, it isn't a lack of confidence: a) beta testing is what users have kept begging for; b) somebody posted links to developer communication, I recall, where someone from Asobo said they themselves had also been asking Microsoft to allow them time for a proper public beta, because it makes sense with such a complex, largely cloud-based piece of software to gather data from as many worldwide users, with as many different hardware and peripheral variations as possible. Unfortunately no development team can house every imaginable platform configuration and peripheral on the market (or test every in-sim location on the whole planet).

But, mainly, many were begging for a beta and not to release updates until users are 100% happy, so Microsoft have finally allowed Asobo to do what's been asked for, and, judging by official forum posts, users aren't 100% happy with certain aspects, or can't agree on what correct weather is.

I do agree that a hotfix of the less complex issues could have been released (e.g. Track IR), it seems, but this is again going to be down to the good old publisher's release strategy. Microsoft make the rules.

Of course there are issues - its a beta! However, many of the issues in SU7 have been fixed - I have been flying without any major problems.

Look, if you feel you have to participate in the beta then don't download it - I just suggested you can enjoy the fixes.

Except it’s not. It’s a workaround, not a fix. Two different things.
