If only the people now bashing Asobo regularly for not doing what they want had criticized LM and LR in a similar way during the past decade.

Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

They complain about Asobo needs to spend more time fixing bugs. So they do that by making this beta last longer and public for everyone to issue more fixes. Now they complain they are not getting the fix fast enough. They are impossible to please.

What happens to the installation when you opt out of the beta?

No one knows, that's for sure.

Warning! children don't try this at home! I opted out of beta and my pc made poof! it burnt down in flames. I then continued with the default version, but rejoined and re-applied the beta hotfix. just add water, no re-installing of anything was necessary.

then after reading all the horror stories here of bad-bad oh so bad MSFS  I thought I should treat myself to a Carenado special 11.99 $ aircraft christmas sale for P3D since I liked the flight model and clouds in P3D v5.13. But boy was I glad I ultimately didn't hit the "buy now" button. I was back out of P3D and back into MSFS as fast as I could reboot my pc. P3D felt like Barney Rubble from the Flintstones in Jurassic stone age. I promise, I will never complain about any MSFS missing detail here, or any other not-yet implemented feature there, because:

today I had the most exciting MSFS IFR flight in the Beech Baron G58 with WorkingTitle's G1000, using real world weather, just as forecasted - down to and well below minimums in snow, fog and at night in mountainous environment to The Dalles, Oregon - KDLS, using LDA-DME rwy 25 approach to an unlit runway. result: I failed - big time. All went well, so I thought, but when I finally saw the blue taxiway lights it was already too late, no runway in sight - as it was covered in snow.

Ceiling: 1000 feet AGL
Clouds: overcast cloud deck at 1000 feet AGL
Weather: -SHRA -SHSN (light rain showers, light snow showers)

this flight taught me once again: the problem was not MSFS, it was me and my lack of single IFR night flying capabilities. I wonder why some people say MSFS is for VFR only? try some winter snow fog 200 feet minimums IFR night flying, it will keep you busy until whenever Asobo releases the next updates.

very nice.

Nobody said anybody not deserved a holiday, but customers do deserve a stable product, they are two very different things.

We have many things broken, either on the product for users or the programming condition for developers, look at the DC-6 for the Xbox, people expect it, purchased it, and been injured, same story for the PMDG, they waste time and their fame been damaged too, but they are harmless just like people who love this sim.

Why no criticism was adopted? Why we need thanks the whole world for something just been "fixed"? what you will get if people who keep silence but just leaving?

A bigger market for the sim? A better developing condition for developers so you can get more high quality addons?

That is not what a good beta tester does.

No one said you had to be a good beta tester. Besides, even bad beta tester will be of good use to Asobo because they know that if something is wrong, people will start shouting and cursing and spamming the internet while if all is good people will be flying happily. This actually is 'good' beta testing, basis as it is.

Anyway, I am thoroughly enjoing MSFS without the beta because 1. none of the problems are a dealbreaker to me and 2. I am also totally unsure if I will have to reinstall the sim later one... which I rather won't do. I will wait for the official release, no matter how long it takes. I am very happy with MSFS (flying the FBW A32NX all the time) so why should I bother. 😉

So, perhaps take advantage of the holidays as well, get in touch with friends, family, be safe, and then you'll come back to a more fixed version of MSFS.

Yea…but this is AVSIM we are obsessive compulsive about our flight sims. Real life human social relationships with friends and family during holidays have no place here.🤣

On Steam, when you select "none" on the Beta menu, a 300 MB download starts immediately (even before clicking OK!*) and MSFS reverts to 1.21.13.0. You are immediately greeted by the color banding in the world map and then low clouds in live weather.

Same procedure to opt in again, a 2 minutes task.

*it was scary! I was just fiddling and I didn't really want to take the risk to reinstall everything 🙂

Excellent, this now fully confirms my hesitation with opting into the Beta via Steam.  What you are saying is that once the SU or Hotfix is formally released - you will be doing a 300 MB reinstall as at that time you will have to unselect Beta in the Steam menu.

I suspected all along that a reinstall was required for Steam users - one way or another.  I will continue to wait for the real update.

Or perhaps people just want the main bugs that have been fixed for weeks released to the public build via a Hotfix (that never came), meanwhile the beta can continue on with other areas of interest that need it.

It's easy to dismiss others when you don't read the thread properly 😉

I don't follow your logic.  The Beta fixes many of the issues, plus you do not have to test or communicate with MS/Asobo - just fly.  In effect you will have a hotfix a couple of minutes after the download.  I am flying this open beta everyday and most of the weather bugs have been fixed.  I use the Steam version.  All I had to do was click on use the beta and MSFS was updated in a couple of minutes.  If I want broken weather again I just untick the beta and a couple of minutes later I can fly in broken weather.

O.K., I'll bite.  Since it's so easy install/uninstall, how to I get the beta?  I know I'm late on this but hopefully this doesn't screw up my community folder and settings when the real update is released.

as it didn't anytime before on my system, and which you could in just 10 seconds rename or move 1 level above, so it is outside and out of sight of MSFS, so it can't and won't "screw up" anything.
