Having to be a beta tester to enjoy the simulator is... not optimal, to put it lightly.

Don't agree with this, yes there has been mistakes but the sim HAS progressed at a phenomenal rate with 7 sim updates and numerous world updates since release....all for free.  So to say " errors and mistakes are still not being dealt with in a timely manner" is not correct.  Beyond that there has quite a few hotfixes delivered in a timely fashion as well.

I don't blame Asobo for leaving it until after xmas......everyone deserves a break and time spent with loved ones in this crazy world we now live in.

People seem to be all to ready to have a pop at MSFS for updates breaking things, and we all know that this does indeed happen, but surely this is generally the nature of complex programs like flight simulators, things just get broken. We only have to look at established flight sims live P3D v5.3 just receiving a hotfix today, after the latest update broke things. I know these update issues are a pain, but it seems to be the norm.

Hmmm... Perhaps if one looked at as an optional update to the mandatory update...

Once the update is installed, there is no requirement to actually test anything or report anything (although one is free to do so if one wishes). All I can say is that I have been enjoying the fixes that this update provides since the day it was made available on Steam.

PS. I do understand those that are hesitant due to the possibility of having to do a complete reinstall. I'm lucky in that I have a no-cap high speed connection and can do a reinstall in a few hours. But I don't anticipate having to do that, as my MSFS data is stored on a separate drive, it is not in the "default" location. Time will tell, though.

It's like this with all the sims. From MSFS 2.0 to P3d to X-Plane and everything in between. I've had all of them and every time my add-ons got broke from an update to the sim I swore I was done with that sim. It's happened in the past and it will in the future, it's just the way it is, frustrating but it'll never change. If the sim never broke something this hobby would never grow, we wouldn't have what we have now. It'll get fixed and it will break again, might as well get used to it.

Excellent, this now fully confirms my hesitation with opting into the Beta via Steam.  What you are saying is that once the SU or Hotfix is formally released - you will be doing a 300 MB reinstall as at that time you will have to unselect Beta in the Steam menu.

I suspected all along that a reinstall was required for Steam users - one way or another.  I will continue to wait for the real update.

I have installed Beta and I realize that I will probably need to reinstall the game when the official patch is released, but what worries me most is if I need to reinstall everything in the Community folder, and all programs outside the game.

I don't follow you guys...

Assuming that it will not be possible to update the sim from the beta, as I wrote previously it takes 2-3 minutes and 300 MB of data to revert to SU7 (1.21.13.0) and from there the update to SU7 "hotfix final" will proceed as normal.

Unless something unpredictable breaks your beta and you won't be able to revert to SU7, there is no risk to reinstall... no more risk than you are facing now staying on SU7.

Ok, I installed the hotfix but all together it was a lot bigger than expected.

How much?

For me (Steam) the initial update to the beta was 620 MB.

Yes, and it's being done correctly this time.  There is a beta out there and you can choose to be an "official" tester with the ability to go back if you don't like it.  It is staying "beta" until they get it right.  By the way, the "beta" is being regularly updated and gets better every day.  Other than weather, and it's much improved, most of the other complaints have been fixed or obviously worked on.

I have asked how you opt in to the Beta - but I'm still unclear on the process

can you explain pls - step by step would be great 🙂

Steam user also btw

Right click on the game, properties, betas, select the beta you want to install.

And how about the procedure for the MS Store version also?

Download and launch XBox Insider Hub https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/xbox-insider-hub/9pldpg46g47z?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0#activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Join MSFS beta from there.

Open the XBox app and MSFS should notify you of an update pending. That's the beta hotfix.

You don't need one... just select the beta from the drop down menu above and the download will start.

Ah, I think you are right... I was taking into consideration only the base update, without the marketplace. I don't have Reno and other payware BTW.
