If you don't want to participate in the beta and the weather is your biggest complaint, give REX a try. It completely eliminates the fog/haze, has proper overcast and cloud heights and the weather transitions are not too bad. It's not perfect, but in the meantime I prefer it to the current status of Asobo's weather.

It's like this with all the sims. From MSFS 2.0 to P3d to X-Plane and everything in between. I've had all of them and every time my add-ons got broke from an update to the sim I swore I was done with that sim. It's happened in the past and it will in the future, it's just the way it is, frustrating but it'll never change. If the sim never broke something this hobby would never grow, we wouldn't have what we have now. It'll get fixed and it will break again, might as well get used to it.

True but unlike MSFS in others previous sims or at least P3D or X-plane you could always roll back to previous versions (updates) that were working and not have to be "mandated" to stay to the current version which always cause issues "breaking things", I think that is the biggest pet peeve with folks about MSFS which is understandable, no one likes it but some hear are very vocal about it and on a daily basis will let anyone and everyone reading know about it. LOL

If only the people now bashing Asobo regularly for not doing what they want had criticized LM and LR in a similar way during the past decade.

It may have something to do with the fact that MSFS crippling updates are mandatory: if you don't downgrade the sim you don't fly. Before some Defensor Fidei states the obvious: I know that in the case of MSFS making updates mandatory is the sensible choice, but after as a developer you make this sensible choice, you should be EXTREMELY careful with what you push on your customers' computers.

So LM and LR were criticized for other things (their sims are far from perfect), but of course not for a mistake they didn't make. A serious mistake, which has been reiterated a few times, to the point that some start to think it's no mistake at all, just a marketing strategy.

Is the hotfix still available?  I can't access it.

Seems easy for Steam users, not so much for MS Market Customers, that I have read.

Just checked, still available in Steam.

should I just feel guilty for enjoying this product so much???

...and guilty you are....LOL...joke aside, I'm having a blast exploring the world with the Kodiak 100.

The Kodiak is one of those products that takes MSFS to the next level - can't stop flying it!

The fog/haze is a big leap in realism and the beta has fixed it.  I purchased Rex on day one, but only used it occasionally to test, after discovering the massive stutters during weather updates.  The complete lack of weather approaching in the distance was also jarring.

My last flight was between Los Angeles and to the east of Las Vegas.  MSFS live weather was not starting so I loaded Rex.  I was very surprised when REX covered the desert in snow - is snow normal for the desert in California at the moment?

If going back to a previous version was an option, I would go back a year.

I haven't actually checked the framerate because the sim still feels smooth flying it.  Certainly no obvious changes to the experience.

I have mine locked to 30 FPS and the DC6 is smooth , so I guess it wouldn't be worse with the Kodiak.

Right click on the game, properties, betas, select the beta you want to install.

Download and launch XBox Insider Hub https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/xbox-insider-hub/9pldpg46g47z?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0#activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Join MSFS beta from there.

Open the XBox app and MSFS should notify you of an update pending. That's the beta hotfix.

You don't need one... just select the beta from the drop down menu above and the download will start.

I got it, thanks!

I find also not helpful (read a bit tiresome) the advice to go to the beta. A  core reinstall will take me at least 15 hours plus the regional DLC and eat up my internet quota for the month. I am sure not to be alone. Knowing the detestable history of MS update and download botched procedures over a year and a half, I do not believe that the risk is minimal. And any guidance from MS is not really to reassure me.

The beta is Asobos intermediate fix before the next full update.

Putting the "beta" label on the hotfix was just an elegant solution to release the fixes very quickly without requiring another beta phase... 🙂

The beta is sound however, so I don't understand why somebody would demand a hotfix very vocally but is not willing to install the fixes anyway. Don't expect, that the SU7 fixes will be shipped in another shape anymore.

The process is really not rocket science and should be easy for people, who are able to handle and fly complex aircraft in the sim. Moving the sim away from the default folder, also has the advantage that too long paths should never occur again when installing something in the community folder.

That is exactly what Asobo wants us all to do. That way they can say they sort of fixed the items they broke, without having to issue a hotfix for everyone. If it cause users to have to reinstall MSFS, then that is the users problem. Thanks but no thanks, they forced the "X Box" update on all of us, and they should  fix the problems they created for all of us, without having us having to  jump through more hoops.

No one knows, that's for sure.

I took the plunge and got the Beta.  I have to concede the point and say this is the hotfix.  So much is fixed in the beta it's amazing.  Even winter in MN has the right amount of snow cover on the ground compared to the real world. Even the lakes are frozen over.👍  For winter Kodiak flying the beta is remarkable.  Cloud cover is accurate as far as I can tell.  The only problem is when ATC clears you for takeoff/landing at smaller (or should I say, some) airfields you still get that, "^$#&*#@* 'Mircosoft' $^#&*@#^" jargon happening.  You still get internet issues where you get switched to generic ATC (a problem brought about in XBOX SU5) but for the most part the beta fixed and enhanced more than a few areas.  Just thought I'd let you know...😏  I'm glad I gave it a shot.

If you can fly the DC-6 with smooth fps, then the Kodiak will be even better.

People seem to be all to ready to have a pop at MSFS for updates breaking things, and we all know that this does indeed happen, but surely this is generally the nature of complex programs like flight simulators, things just get broken. We only have to look at established flight sims live P3D v5.3 just receiving a hotfix today, after the latest update broke things. I know these update issues are a pain, but it seems to be the norm.

Howdy. Your mention of the P3d 5.3 HF release of today was music to my ears. Had rolled back my original 5.3 upgrade because it broke too many things. Today’s HF puts things right, even better and I’m a happy camper again with TWO sims to fly instead of just one
