December 30, 20214 yr I guess my perception of this event is a bit biased because I'm an animal lover. Especially cats, both large and small. Read this story and tell me if I'm right or wrong when I say they should have shot the janitor, not the tiger. There are a lot more janitors in the world (millions) than there are Malayan tigers (200): https://theblast.com/150463/tiger-killed-at-florida-zoo/ . If you agree with me, please let your feelingd be known at [email protected] . December 30, 20214 yr The individual in question was trespassing in an unauthorised area. As the man was actually being attacked at the time, the policeman had to shoot the tiger in an attempt to save his life. Tragic loss an endangered tigers life. And possibly the human too, I gather he's in a serious condition. If he recovers, I'm wondering if he will or won't be prosecuted. Edited December 30, 20214 yr by martin-w
December 30, 20214 yr Though a preliminary account, the zoo worker was not authorized to to enter that area near the tiger. The tiger was just acting like we all know they are: A really dangerous animal, not to be messed with... BTW, why are big cats still in cages in this Country? This incident reminds me of the many teens and sometimes adults who attempt ridiculous stunts on bikes and skate boards, often causing serious injuries to themselves or others - I think t's all become part of the adrenaline rush culture.
December 30, 20214 yr Author I respectfully have disagree Martin. The man was outside the cage reaching in. The worst thing that could have happened is that he lost his arm. Or, in an extreme case, possibly bled to death. Both of which would have been deserved, -1000 tiger points. December 31, 20214 yr I side with Sue and Doug. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

December 31, 20214 yr I hate the thought that any animals are in cages. They should be free. As for big cats, those videos that show people laughing and joking as a big cat tries to get through a thick glass panel to eat their small child just beggars belief. Parents really should be teaching their children that big cats are incredibly dangerous animals, and should be treated with respect, not as sources of amusement. December 31, 20214 yr The core problem is, IMO, that Zoo is not an acceptable concept... Want to watch the other animals? Find them in their habitat, or watch it in TV / Internet... But the policeman could not just stand there and eat a sandwich and drink a cup of coffee while the tiger chewed the guys arm off. He would have been in serious legal jeapody if he had. He was legally obliged to shoot. I doubt he would have been able to just stand there and do nothing while the man was writhing in agony either. I'm the guy that literally picks up ants out of my kitchen and puts them outside. So agree that the loss of this animal is dreadful. But I understand why the policeman had to shoot. I hate it but understand.

I guess there is an argument for endangered species with a minimal number left, to be in captivity in order to protect the species from extinction but otherwise agree. I don't have an issue with people like Kevin Richardson (lion whisperer) who has an enormous compond over many acres and engages in enrichment programs for the animals to ensure their psychological well being. He reintroduces animals to the wild when possible too. He's recently taken in Cheetah cubs that were abandoned by their mother and will ultimately be reintroduced to the wild.
December 31, 20214 yr Maybe I am cold hearted, but I think the wrong animal got shot. Tigers are tigers, they do what they are genetically programmed to do. Humans are smarter, although that seems more questionable with each passing day, and should know not to mess with dangerous animals. Should a human decide to play stupid games, then they should win stupid prizes. Whether this applied in this case, I don't know.
December 31, 20214 yr Administrators A similar incident happened several years ago at the the San Francisco zoo. A couple of idiot youngsters (in their early 20's) were taunting the tiger from outside the enclosure. The tiger got po'd enough to jump the crevice and over the fairly tall, iron-bar fence and went after them. And, of course, the same outcome for the tiger. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Tiger-attack-survivor-headed-to-prison-3273170.php Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer.
