Guys VR is the future for FS. I can't go back to 2D

I've heard of it..... 🙃

Maybe you should try it...  and then come back into this thread with an educated opinion 😉

You absolutely might hate it.  But I was in your shoes 2 years ago - an absolute VR skeptic.  I basically bought my first VR headset (Oculus Rift S) on a whim with no real expectations.  After flying in VR for a couple of days, it was clear there was no going back to 2D simming ever.

I will take your advice! 😉

At least for me in MSFS, the G2 make me feel like its VR world is sized for a 7 year old.  I will be SO HAPPY when that wrongly sized world scaling gets corrected.

Honestly I don't feel the VR scaling is off in MSFS.  And I really haven't seen that complaint from others.  We both use a Reverb G2 so I am not sure why your world scaling would seem off (since I don't think there is a setting in MSFS that effects it)

Thanks for the feedback.  A friend who has a G2 doesn't notice a world scale issues either, but I've also read posts of G2 owners who have the world scale issue.  My tome was to make people aware of this aspect of VR, and I'm glad that others have no issues there.  Obviously and unfortunately for me, it is really bothersome.

I think everything is slightly too small. However, I haven't played with any VR settings yet, so there might be a way to adjust the size simply by scaling a parameter.

Sometimes things are also not modeled the right size. If you take the yoke in the Kodiak, it's modeled too small.

Will pile on the immersion point here.    With monitors prior to VR, I would turn off the lights in the room trying to eliminate the static background.

But the mere fact of using a hatswitch to "turn your head" is so foreign to how one operates in the real world, and even with the best external hardware, you're not "in" the plane.  You're watching through windows (no pun intended...).   I use a series of great addons to bring everything from PDF docs (checklists, charts etc...) into the cockpit as well maps, littlenavmaps, etc...

And half of the external hardware (tablet style) allows you to assign a button SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO SCROLL YOUR VIEW TO SELECT THE FUNCTION.   Isn't immersion about actually controlling the said switch / knob where it is located in the plane.  Also love the flypad in the FBW a320 along with simbrief: all work great in VR.    Count me as one who'll never go back to 2D monitors....used to use 3 of them.   VR is just not for VFR flights in the piper arrow, though it is great for that as well.  I fly with a buddy of mine in his arrow II and verify that the scale (at least for the JFs) are dead on.   It's smaller in there than you'd think....

Till you've tried it with a recent headset (G2 for me) on an optimized setup, don't knock it....  your mileage may vary.

Aerofly FS2 has a scaling setting (feel like a mouse in a house!)

But I cant remember if any other sims have one.

The 3D effect and sense of scale (outside the cockpit) is absolutely there in VR.

But not in real life, where your stereoscopic depth perception ends at about 20 feet. Maybe there's an argument for exaggerating one thing to compensate for the lack of others. I'm sure there's a whole psychology of simulation.

I still don't understand your point.  All I know is when looking at the cockpit and the view outside the cockpit in VR, things look lifelike and real to my eyes - like I am there.  There is no unnatural 3D effect (like you would get watching TV or a movie through those 3D glasses).  There is nothing exaggerated or compensated (other than clarity compared to a 4K monitor).

Have you actually tried VR?  Your argument sounds like someone imagining what the "3D effect" of VR feels like as opposed to coming from someone who has used the technology himself...

Depth perception and Depth sensation work together to supply the sensory cues provided by binocular/stereo vision.

I doubt the combo is that ineffective as to be irrelevant beyond 20 feet.

By all means though I thoroughly enjoy my VR. As a student pilot I finally have real flight experience to compare and by any measure VR is so close to the real thing. It is amazing that practicing flight in VR feels so much like practicing in the real air. At the end of hour long practice flight in VR when I removed the G2 I had almost the same feeling, mentally and physically, as I just finished my real flight. It's really that good.

Women and Gentlemen this is what it's all about.  You can't get more validation of a tool in this hobby than real world pilot testimony. That's of course if you're looking at this as a sim versus a game. 😎👍

I must add though, in VR you still don't get physical sensation/motion and force on controller (without that $1500 force feedback yoke). But of course that is not VR's fault.

If I'm into long flights with airliners I probably will prefer hardware cockpit and 2D screens, as in these cases I'd imagine MSFS is more of a "cockpit/button" simulator and you spend most of your time pushing button and twisting knobs. But for hand flying small airplanes, VR is just so close to the real thing.

I'm thinking to buy a butt-kicker just to add some vibrations to my seat. The real cockpit of C172 is really noisy and shaking, in contrast sim cockpit is too quiet and perfect. I need some distractions ... lol.

Depends on what headsets you're using.  With a 'Bose A20' headset you'd think you were in FS...😎

Yes, I bought a cheap headset too. My QXC almost did me in. Should have gone Dave Clark 😐
