For those with the Twin Otter, has it matured enough to warrant a purchase, or are there still issues with sounds and features?

The weight still feels off to me on landings.

It's way too floaty on touchdown imo.

I love it.

The H145 and the Twiotter are the only models I fly now. I stopped using the Kodiak, this one is more fun for me anyway. I love all the steam gauges.

It is very easy to fly if you do it by the numbers. It is a bit complex but still very manageable. I can land it in 800' on a canyon dirt road.

I don't find the sound bad. I always use noise cancelling headphones piloting real planes. So I like that you can turn down the sound in  a sim. I find the sounds fine you can tell when feathering or starting and reverse or RPM changes, to me that is all I need. If you need perfect sound this may not be for you. But I don't like a lot of noise, I often listen to music in real planes and in the sim. In  real planes l  fly  any com traffic silences the music. But this is just me of course.😄

It is a fun VFR bush plane but also a very capable IFR platform. The deice works great in icing conditions as well.

Wow😳🥴, it looks like you need a very good VR headseat which would go along way in saving you desk space.  This reminds me of server rooms before VMWare.  It took hundreds of servers in a server room down to four physical boxes hosting the hundreds of servers virtually.  I know you may be like others who poo poo the idea of VR but the desk space you would gain would be immense. You'd go down to one monitor and the yoke/throttle peripherals you have there.   To each their own as an example Ed Detroit is still FS9 with 2D panels.  Heck my main sim was FS9 before FS2020 came out.  I refused to deal with that bloated FSX code both in FSX and P3D.😏

Tried VR, don't like it. I like hardware dials and switches. I do use the Puck IRtracking, works great.

I sent my VR headset back, until mixed or augmented goggles with 4K or better resolution comes out I am on the sidelines just checking progress.

I did have some fun in X-plane flying helis using my VR headset, but it just is not as much fun as a cockpit with hardware dials and switches.

My setup works for anything from Cubs to F16's and helis or tubeliners. I have left and right hand joysticks as well as throttles right and left a few different kinds as well as the bravo for yoke planes.

Space is not an issue, my setup is only used for simming and sits in a corner of a sun room with nice views out windows all around. It is a great place to hang out part of a 50'x32' room. Sure it is a bit of a mess electronically but I keep on changing and building new parts. For me the clutter is nice. I use this room to paint in as well.

VR is no good when using Foreflight on an iPad.

It seems its still a no for the Twin Otter - most responses are negative.  Ask anybody about the Just Flight Cherokees or the SWS Kodiak and you just get positive.

I'll pass for now.

Did they improve the sounds at all in the patch a few days ago?  I may give in and buy the TSS set/download the mod but I’m curious if there’s been further improvements.

Yes the sounds changed a bit. Try w/o the mod first.

Also I have heard that AS is completely redoing the sounds from new recordings, this will be in a future update.

Personally as stated above the sounds are fine with me.

And it really is a good model. Play around with weight and CG and the handling changes a lot. A lightly loaded, as in default when starting, Otter is very light and climbs at 2000 fpm. Load it up and it becomes much more sluggish. Quite realistic I would say. It is also a great plane for slipping into a tight field, just be ready with the power if you are slow.

I'll  jump in after the sound updates and still looking for that special paint.
