April 1, 20224 yr It's a tricky day to put out a Beta 🙂 but it is also one of the more interesting betas / SUs for me. Thankfully I have Alexis testing it for me, at least until I get the "courage" to push SU9-beta myself. It was uneventful with SU8-beta, so, I might give it a try... The main item is going to be, at least for me, the new "CFD" approach to modelling airflows and their interaction with different aircraft surfaces. Supposedly, and as Sebastien announced in the last Q&A, these effects will be enabled in the ASOBO C172 but all aircraft can "opt for CFD" as well. It's still partly unknown to me how MFS has been blending their new "pressure / drag grids" against the core FS table/parametric-based FM inherited from previous versions of MS FS, and this new approach is even more of a "mistery" to me. I am willing to check, for instance, what this new CFD-based model can get from bi-planes, tri-planes, aircraft with two or three vertical stabs, various shapes of main wings regarding sweep, etc... Really interesting ! At the same time Austin is rebuilding X-Plane's FDM to cope with even more variations of calculations for hidding surface effects, supersonic flight, etc... In times when we feel even more dramatically how much War is a completely basic / stupid act typical of human kind as a whole, MFS and X-Plane are finally driving me away from Combat flightsims because there's a LOT to play with, at least for now in MFS with it's superb sceneries, smoothness, aircraft, weather modelling... Bright future ahead for Civil Aviation Simulation !!! We have a place to hide from all of the negativity around ...
