Is the weather/clouds any better in SU9?

Featured Replies

Are there any planned improvements or actual improvements to the weather/clouds in SU9 for those that are on the beta?

Banding and pixelation on nearby clouds have been greatly reduced.

External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

The clouds seem to me to be improved but the turbulence as you fly is ridiculous and totally borked.

The clouds seem much better in SU9 to me.  I am seeing much less cumuliform clouds and a much more proper stratiform placement.  Overall a much better experience with the weather! The small popcorn clouds that are everywhere in 'Clear' WX (SU8 bug) is also fixed.

You mean there's too much of it?

5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX  9070XT.

Clouds are the only improvement so far in sim update 9, the other fixes are stuff they broke in the beta

Yes. I installed the SU9 beta and found that the turbulence and jerky flight with GA planes was overdone. Because I had other stability issues I reinstalled SU8 and I am back to what I would regard as normal.

Nevermind the clouds, I'm reading bad things about the performance...

No performance problem for me.

VR? sorry should've stated that in my post, VR users experiencing a performance decrease (although monitor users have said the same). Doesn't affect everyone, but I don't recall as much noise about this during the SU8 Beta which worries me this time.

Definitely some improvement in the quality, coverage and structure of the clouds in SU9, you should notice an improvement. More stratiform clouds, less massive cumulus.
No performance  issues for me, i7 11700k, GTX 1080 Ti, 32Gb DDR4 RAM 2k monitor.

Clouds look better until I load Rex WeatherForce up, then I realise there's a long way to go.

Yes, clouds are improved and starting to see hints of variety. As others say, still a long way to go, but at least it saves you from the ‘local metar globally with shocking transitions every few minutes’ experience of the Rex product.

Praise is due, where praise is due, but after 20 months of MSFS the clouds are still not what they should be. Nature gives us:

Altocumulus

Altostratus

Cirrocumulus

Cirrostratus

Cirrus

Cumulonimbus

Cumulus

Nimbostratus

We maybe get 30% of that. Here is hoping some day we have the variety we should have.....

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
