as a kid, when I saw this high on the shelf in the computer store, what I imagined it would be like is what @Aamir and team have now delivered - 30 years later!

I had exactly this, too 😊

The Fenix sure looks great. My only concern is the performance. Watching few streamers it looks its worse then the PMDG performance wise.

I can also clearly see why its heavier… but still, i am afraid it will be almost impossible to have reasonable performance in 3rd party big airports. At least not in the current SU.

So you can hop over to that other forum and rub it in their face? 😜

We need a standoff thread on a general subforum. 😄

Happy with MSFS 🙂

Captain Blackbox (longtime real-world A320 pilot) said on his stream that if the Fenix team fixes the handful of bugs still left, then it will surpass the FSLabs A320 in his opinion. It also seems significantly less demanding in terms of FPS compared to the FSLabs. Aamir joined the stream too and answered questions and took feedback, I really like how much they interact with the community.

As we await the release, I wanted to recommend a resource that I think will be useful to those for whom the Fenix will be their first Airbus -- and maybe also to some who have been flying Airbuses for a while. I'm talking about Mike Ray's A320 Pilot Handbook:

[links snipped but appreciated]

Thanks for passing on those links and for the recommendation.

That prompted me to take a quick look in the Kobo ebook store. I found a few ebooks that look interesting but I hasten to point out that I haven't read them and can't attest to their quality. However, they are "free" if you have a Kobo Plus membership (which I do) so I'm going to check them out as I wait for the Fenix to release.

Airbus 320 Crew Manual: https://www.kobo.com/ca/en/ebook/airbus-a320-5

Airbus 320 Abnornal Operation: https://www.kobo.com/ca/en/ebook/airbus-a320-4

Airbus 320 MCDU Operation: https://www.kobo.com/ca/en/ebook/airbus-a320-3

Airbus 320 Emergencies: https://www.kobo.com/ca/en/ebook/airbus-a320-8

At the very least, the MCDU one looks interesting to me.

So you're saying that it looks like we've still got a couple more years of throwing hardware at our simulators left until we hit Nirvana?

I could have sworn a couple of years ago we were in this same situation. And a couple of years before that as well??

Not necessarily, Asobo could improve fps with further optimisation in the sim, DX12 that is coming should use the CPU more efficiently and make a real impact if implemented right. Not to mention Fenix may have room to optimise also.

I think it’s part and parcel of pushing the envelope of what is possible isn’t it. I bet in 15 years will be talking about the fenix as though it’s ancient and doesn’t seem remotely real which is bizarre to think what will be flying then, not to mention the hardware will need.

Plus in 15 years I’ll be 51 which I expect will be around the start of my peak time of enjoying the sim as my career winds down and I’ll have more time to really spend on it with my kids grown up too.
Makes me think of the guys that are in there twilight years now and are at that pinnacle point of being able to enjoy this and reflect back on the their flight sim journey probably back from the 80s, crazy how far it’s come.

You wish. But I'll let you discover what the future brings on your own. 😉

Anyway, yes, it's been a great journey but also a journey with disappointments. What really is THE highlight in my (around) 35 years of flight simming is... the release of MSFS...! Which was less than 2 years ago...!!! Because to me personally, in all honesty, the flight sim genre was sort of dying. After the Aces studios were closed down and I switched to P3D (and XP and Aerofly) I didn't really see a bright future for flight simming. It was all old tech. I lost interest. I had some great times flying nonetheless but I knew it would give me less and less enjoyment over time. There were lots of things I didn't like (I am a graphic addict), I couldn't get used to the bland and lifeless graphics and the idea that I would be stuck with that for the rest of my life saddened me greatly.

But then MSFS was released.

Man, that was a life changer. And now within 2 years (!) after the initial release we already (!) get a plane (this Fenix Airbus) that surpasses everything I've seen before... in a sim that surpasses everything I've seen before. All the things I didn't like about FSX and the other sims were solved completely with MSFS. World wide photorealistic scenery (and not Megascenery photorealistic but REALLY photorealistic!), photorealistic aircraft, it's all sooooooo beautiful...!!! And this Fenix is the crown on it all imho!

So yes, it's great to reflect back on everything but only thanks to what I've got now! You little girls and boys should be extremely grateful for receiving all these precious flight simming goodies without actually deserving it LOL 😉

Good post. Haha yep maybe I should wait and see on the future, certainly enjoying it right now, that’s for sure and your right we are very spoilt right now and a lot of us probably came into it after the dark lost years. Let’s hope they never return, right now the future looks very bright 🙂
